Wow, that was a big disappointment yesterday. But it occurred to me it wasn't even close to some of the earth-shattering gut-wrenching disappointments I have experienced in my Vol-fanaticism past. The point being that, just as we did from these games, the Vols will eventually bounce back. GO VOLS!

1. Sept 1977 - Cal 27 Vols 17 - Johnny comes marching home for his first game after leading Pitt to a MNC. Yeah I was only 12 years old but I expected immediate results. I wasn't aware California had a football team.

2. Nov 1983 - Ole Miss 13 Vols 10 - Johnny's rebuilding project has taken 6 long years and finally we are slated for one of the big 4 bowls. That is until we choke it away to the unranked Rebels.

3. Sept 1986 - Miss St 27 Vols 23 - The Vols are back! Coming off the big Sugar bowl win the year before and ranked #8, we lay an egg at home against -yack- the Bulldogs. We finish 7-5 and unranked.

4. Oct 1988 - Wash St 52 Vols 24 - Vols had started 0-4 against a tough schedule. Time to get one in the W column and get the ship righted- NOT.

5. Oct 1990 - Bama 9 Vols 6 - Vols ranked third with a high powered offense, playing at home. Bama unranked. Bama hangs around, hangs around, kicks a field goal at the end.

6. Oct 1992 Arkansas 25 Vols 24 - Tennessee at home and ranked 4 and against unranked Hogs. Arky scores TD with less than a minute left, converts an onside kick, then a FG to win.

7. Sept 1994 Florida 31 Vols 0 - Somehow you just knew this was the first of many to come.

8. Sept 1996 Florida 35 Vols 29 - Playing at home, Peyton Manning, if you can't beat the Gators now, when? Made you question your commitment to the Vols.

9. Dec 2001 LSU 31 Vols 20 - SEC Championship. If Vols win, they play for their 2nd MNC in 4 years. Would have put UT into the elite class of programs.

10. Jan 2004 Clemson 27 Vols 14 - Ranked #6 vs. unranked Tigers. Second straight bad loss in Peach bowl to ACC team. Fulmer's grace period from the MNC officially wears off.

BONUS: Houston 45 Okla St 35 - How much must that suck? Your billionaire booster and new facilities and high flying offense got a win for the ages last week. Only for it all to come crashing down a week later.

Hang in there Vols fans. Keep your eye on what's important (it rhymes with defruiting).

Yes, this should make us feel better. Listing out many other disappointing losses that really have nothing to do with yesterday at all.
