Pro-style quarterback
Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas

Ht: 6-foot-2
Wt: 210 lbs

Baty told Scout.com's Allen Wallace the following while speaking about Tennessee---

Scout.com

They are only taking two quarterbacks and they said that I’m the third on their board. It’s just gonna depend on where those other guys commit.

Quick notes:

• born in Florida, but grew up in California.
• played in 2008 for Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, CA.
• recently transferred to powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas.
• with a cross-country move, I think that's one of the biggest reasons he's so far under the radar.
• says he grew up supporting Florida and is expecting to find out if they'll offer over the next month.
• father, Greg Baty, played TE for Stanford which is his lone offer thus far.
• MaxPreps shows 1700 passing yards on the 2008 season, but a curiously low number of attempts. He may have been injured. I'm trying to find out more.

Third???? Rettig must be off our board then. Good sign.

Rettig is not off our board. He hasn't committed anywhere. No one knows where Scroggins is going yet, possibly not even him at this point. Rettig's destination will be directly impacted by Scroggins' choice. I think the board looks like this:

Scroggins/Rettig
Rees
EVERYBODY ELSE

So technically the coaches aren't lying about this kid being 3rd on the list because they are only going to get two of the guys in the top 3. If Scroggins goes to USC, we will get Rettig. JMO.

If the coaches do see something they don't like in Rettig, that likely has nothing to do with Scroggins, but I don't think that's the case. They've pretty much told him he has an offer depending on where Jesse goes.

Sab,don't take this the wrong way, but does anyone here 'really know' what the coaches have told any recruit?

No. Of course we don't. We can just go by what the player says since the coaches can't comment. That's part of my point with this guy. He says he's 3rd on the board, but we don't know for sure that that's true.

1st Jesse Scroggins
2nd Chase Rettig
3rd Turner Baty I guess? I would take Rees over him!

Sab, I think you forgot about my avatar. Could you help a poor man out? Thanks:hi:

Tyler Bay said USC told him that if they didn't land Scroggins, it would be between him and Rettig. So, it's not an automatic that they would pic Rettig. I'm hoping USC does offer Bray (isn't he the one that wears cement cleats?)

Sab, I bumped the picture in Jac's thread. I don't know how to cut and paste, sorry!

3. Turner Baty: Perhaps no player will have more eyes on them in 2009 than Baty. The transfer from California will take over at defending National Champion St. Thomas Aquinas. Baty has a great set of tools who will need some time to get acclimated to the Raider offense. Baty has an accurate arm and can make all the throws. He holds an offer from Stanford, but has many schools keeping tabs on him.

His attempts were low cause the coaches didn't let him pass as he wasn't too good and the team had great running back. Look at his QB rating....

I think the coaches telling this kid he's third is code for "any other quarterback we may want that's not Scroggins and Rettig"

Anything good for UT?

Apparently he is a big Gator fan. Grew up a fan.

Yessir. Looks like he is right there with Bray and Kaiser as the next QBs on our board. He talks to Gran pretty regularly. He has become good friends with Palardy and said if he commits to UT, they will recruit half of South Florida to Knoxville...

Don't get me excited...

I wish Miami would give this kid a look. He is playing for St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida and has a ton of talent. He basically rolled into a perfect situation down there. He has good size just not enough on him for the coaches this year. If he has a monster year which he should this kid should move up the charts. I was hoping he would be a plan B for Miami, cause I think this kid has the goods.
