Prime example what can happen when your offense is so 1 dimensional you can lose to a way lesser opponent. I think I read a Stat before fornette got hurt only 8 plays on offense didn't go to him.. Wisconsin stacked the box and dared lsu to throw. They have a shakey qb in Harris and they end up losing embarrassingly on primetime. Teams WILL stack the box and dare debord to have Dobbs stretch the field. I hope they prove us wrong and show they can spread the ball around otherwise it will be a long season.

OP this offense is the same as it was last year. Teams did the same thing last year. We still won 9 games. Why do some people think our offense is something new DCs will have to prepare for?

I don't think anyone is fooled thinking we created a new offense, yet they made it very clear they expect to utilize the WR more this entire off season. They claim they want balance. I refuse to use Thursday night debacle as our example of the offensive we plan on running this season (aka not letting Dobbs qb read) it all out the window Saturday against tech.

Some on here were so outraged at the suggestion of the possibility of bringing in Dormady to alternate some with Dobbs...saying how ridiculous it would be and you have to stick with one guy for stability reasons...and that Dobbs is a senior..etc etc. I don't know...seems to work out for the National Champions pretty well. Their confidence and stability doesn't seem to be shaken by alternating QB's unless I missed something in that 52-6 win.

We've gotta do what we've gotta do...and Dobbs has obvious issues with throwing the football accurately...but can run like the dickens.

it's hard not to like Dobbs. He's a nice guy....would want him to fate your daughter, but not qb your team.

The only way we're going to be able to put points on the board this year is when Debord decides to man up and let Dobbs run the ball more. I do think he didn't want Josh to run as much the first game to prevent injury. When Josh can run, it opens up a whole new threat to defenses so that they've got to guard the run but yet prevent a receiver to be left wide open. No Dobbs is not a great passer, he's a senior, he will never be a great passer. But Dobbs is probably top 3 in the country in quarterback running ability. I forsee us opening up the QB run threat the most when SEC play starts, I just hope it doesn't cost us a game before then. What Debord doesn't see is that it's almost as big of a risk, injury wise, to not let Dobbs run and get creamed back there from lack of OLine play than it his, him being able to do his thing and run away from danger.

It won't change until Jones is forced to replace DeBord.

It's not Debord's offense. It's Butch's. Nothing will change as long as we have Butch. We need to be able to out execute the D we are facing. Against AS, we didn't. Last year against Northwestern, we did.

The coach speak dribble says balance in reality its Hurd up the middle or bust. I would think for the money these guys make, 9 month time frame, 100K plus in the stands and expectations very high they could come up with a more interesting game plan on offense? Just spitballing here.

Trick is to not let teams make you one dimensional. LSU and Tennessee mirror each other in the fact they both have QB's with arms teams have little respect for. Problem for LSU is they use traditional sets where throwing to make teams honest is even more important.

Tennessee on the other hand can put 3 running backs on the field at the same time, run misdirection, throw a little bit and chose to do none of that the other night. Why.. I have no idea other than they underestimated their opponent.

It's what happens when you don't have a passing game and depend on your QB to play whoopsiedoo high school ball every down.

This^ Freshman Jalen Hurts made a mental error then took his training wheels off. Kid has a freakin cannon that is very accurate, but unfortunately this only allowed by Bama and UGA, our fan base and coaching staff would rather win tight games or lose tight games than let a freshman throw the ball

Ok, enough.....we've beat this topic to death, including me, let's snap and clear and move forward. Everyone now knows that the UT Offense was playing from the same base set in an effort to work on the passing game and to not show VT anything new. It almost blew up in their face. So, outside those P5 teams that scheduled weak teams (Ohio State and Bowling Green), good teams struggled and some lost. I am glad UT is 1-0, and I believe CBJ has learned a huge lesson early. Let this team play to its strengths and stop being a micro manager coach.

Go Vols! beat the Hokies!

Wisconsin and bammer ran wide open offenses, the results speak for themselves. That dink and dunk 'O' we ran vs. asu will get us beat vs. the stronger defenses we have on the schedule.
