we all know our trials and tribulations, and we have 8 more games to see what we can do with this year. i think it's obvious thought that our work is cut out for us, and that we may in fact be on our way to some changes at season's end. the soap opera will really start to get some national attention if we lose to both SC and Bama, regardless of what we do against GA. then everyone will be pointing to the KY game as a litmus test, for us, not KY.
as to the rest of the SEC, FL and LSU are on collision course, no, not for the date in Baton Rouge, but the 2nd date in ATL. I for one am looking forward to seeing these two tee it up twice. they should both be very good games.
it is also likely that since they should play each other twice, the loser of the reg. season game has a shot at thwarting a national title shot by beating them in a rematch, and thus thrusting their name in the hat for said trip to the Sugar Bowl. the good news, both are probably good enough to compete for the NT. the bad news, OK is going to be undefeated, as will USC most likely. dont' see room for 1 loss SEC team if both are undefeated.
would anyone really be interested in playing LSU in the Sugar Bowl for a national title anyway? me neither.
OK....i think this team is very good, the defense is stout and they are getting "bonus" play from the qb. people keep talking about the red river shootout......it's going to be more like red river blowout. TX is vastly overrated, and is simply the beneficiary of playing in a fairly weak Big 12. as usual, this is the only marquee match up of the season in that conf. Mack Brown comes back to "life after Vince Young". and despite his NT a couple of years ago, would the renewed losing streak to OK be enough for some longhorns to start looking around andy saying..."hey, wait a minute here"?
USC...also, very good. deserving of the NO. 1 ranking? sure they are. can they beat Cal? yes. Can they beat UCLA? yes. will they? yes. since it has happened, recently to boot, i won't guarantee an undefeated season for the men of troy, but i would be shocked if the stumble in the reg. season.
then there's everybody else....the ACC is not good. BC and Clemson are respectable. everyone else is kind of blah. FSU has a chance this weekend to make a statement, but so does Bama. this should be a good game actually. Did Miami turn the corner last week against a&m? would help the ACC if they did.
the Big Least? not so any more. i'm not going to put them up against the SEC or Pac 10, but Rutgers, WVU, S. FL. do not suck. L'ville is a disappointment.
the Pac 10...Oregon, Cal, USC...the three biggies, with a pest in Tempe, and a UCLA team that needs to hold up it's end of a top 15 ranking to add some depth to this conf. still though, all in all, the Pac 10 is up this year, can't deny that.
the big 10. Mich is to Penn St as FL is TN...it doesn't matter how good PSU is, MIch will win. for PSU fans, that has got to hurt.........a lot, we should know. and honestly, i'm ok with it, for some reason, i just can't stand anthony morelli. OSU, had a good win against a scrappy WA team earlier in the season, then after that the conf. jumbles with some "ok" teams. Purdue's offense is ridiculous. Wisconsin is well, uh, i don't know......boring.
Notre Dame.....
lol:golden boy's stats in the MSU game--7/13, 53 yards and an int. nice. this has been the greatest Notre Dame season i can ever remember.
so, not a whole lot has changed, but instead of the big 3, there's now the big 4 with USC, LSU, OK and FL separating themselves from the rest of the country. everyone else (that includes you, undefeated WVU), enjoy watching some combination of those 4 (USC/OK) playing in New Orleans in early January.
