I doubt teams will kick to us next year, unfortunately. Our return teams were fun to watch..

Just here lately special teams have improved faster than Defense an offense.

Not 40+ field goals. Game changers.

That block in the back return, was a stat killer

My prediction for 2016

Top 5 ST
Top 5 DL
Top 10 overall defense
Top 15 overall offense

Hurd and Kamara will be the TOP backfield duo in the country.

If that is not a recipe for a SEC championship IDK what is.

Special Teams are equally as important as Offense and Defense. I'm glad we have a staff that takes it very seriously.

If the offense has an off day, but the defense is playing great (and vice versa), special teams can be the difference maker.

I think about what Jimmy Johnson used to say about the three phases of the game when we talk about special teams.

Field Goals?

Cost us a game or two in 2015.

I can't name one game out of the 4 losses that was lost on Medley's foot..... OU/UF was Butch putting his head up his rear. People say Bama, but if we had made those 3, its 23-19 with them having the ball in the redzone with 2 minutes left. Our defense had major failures this year that costed us 3 wins. Arkansas was just ugly...

Try to explain it away any way to want but the facts are Medley missed a field goal in every one of our losses. If he felt the kick was out of his range then he should have told Butch that he couldn't make it. Reminds me of when Peterman broke his throwing hand against UF but didn't tell any of the coaches about it.

I think you're both right. We did lose those games largely because of bad in game management and a failing defense that couldn't get a stop...any stop. But it's also a fact that Medley missed kick after kick after kick in those games and we don't know the dynamics change if he hits any one of those kicks. Bottom line is that Medley was bad last year and absolutely has to get better, much, much better, if we're gonna be a championship team in 2016. He can't continue to fail when given opportunities.

Championship teams shouldn't put themselves in a position to have a kicker hit 40+ fieldgoals to win. Those should be icing on the cake not make or break.

Sounds great in theory, but it's far from reality. Some close calls and a healthy heap of luck goes into every championship season.

I know it aint popular. But before Medley gets out of here he could be a beast. The kids got a seriously active leg. If he can just lock in the consistency, then he could be special. Butch sure believes in him.

I don't know crap about kicking, so don't know if his issues are mental or mechanical. Just saying, if he straightens those things out, he could be a weapon.

Could win us a close one or two this year if he does.

And he wouldn't be the first big legged, highly recruited kicker that CBJ fixed at it ut

I agree Bill. Just saying 45 YARD field goals are part of the razor's edge of luck that happen. Medley will be better for the misses this past season, the team will have less of those situations this season and Bama goes down.

I can get behind that logic. Experience matters.

That is a great statement but not accurate at all. I can't think of any BCS champion that didn't have a close game. 2001 Miami? Had a close one against Va Tech. 2004 USC? Close one against Cal. 2009 Bama? Yea, good field goal kicker would have been helpful

Otoh, pretty much all championship teams have kickers who are very reliable from 40+ yds.

I remember Dooley saying that he may not put a punt returner on the field because none of them could catch a punt. Yeah, we've come a long way on Special Teams.

And it went on for like 2-2.5 years. Complete coaching malpractice. What Jones has done with special teams is possibly the most impressive at Tennessee, along with his work in recruiting and the team APR
