Miami (FL) Dr. Krop

Ht: 6-foot-1
Wt: 246 lbs
Forty: 4.95 secs
Vertical: 31 inches
Shuttle: 4.5 secs

Linebacker Quan Fletcher (6-1, 230) is the 2009 recruit most colleges stop by and visit now. Fletcher wasn't practicing Monday when I visited Krop (he had his right pinkie in ice). But he looked to be in a lot better shape physically than he did a year ago. That's because he has lost nearly 20 pounds. After weighing more than 240 last season, Fletcher has gotten leaner and plans to play at around 230 this season. He was timed with 4.67 speed in the 40-yard dash recently -- his fastest time ever -- and likely will play a little bit at running back this season.

Pittsburgh was checking him out Monday. Fletcher said he already has several offers, including a written one from Purdue. Florida State, Central Florida, Tennessee and South Florida also are very interested. Fletcher said he grew up a Hurricanes fan while playing at North Dade Optimist. But he said the one thing he learned from Sabino's recruiting process a year ago was ``to keep an open mind and pick the best fit for himself.''

has offers from UCF, Florida State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida but says he would prefer to leave the state.

From CaneSport...has offers from the likes Tennessee, Auburn, Florida and Florida State and expresses some disappointment that the Canes aren't showing more interest. No favorites.

It must suck having a virtual breeding ground of unreal talent all around your campus. I just cant really imagine how good Miami should have been the past 10 years with good coaching. Now they can just cull kids like this and not think twice. I am sure they are passing him because of the freakin LB class they pulled in last year.

Well from having a wife in the school system and seeing tons of names like this and wondering I would think it would be like vkb says, Kwanthony, and he probably gets called Quan.

Sounds like a bad ass MLB or put 20-30lbs and he would be a great athlete at DE.

From what I've read, Miami's facilities are pretty bad. Other than it being the home town... there's alot of reasons to not got to the U.

Its not just the home town down there. Around the Miami area, "The U" is it, to most kids in that area it is a dream to play there. Alot of those kids come from nothing to begin with so facilities mean nothing to them only they are playing for the school that they grew up idolizing. Add to that they have been the top NFL producing school in recent history and there are many many reasons for kids in that area to want to goto Miami.

Florida three-star inside linebacker Quanthony Fletcher took his first official visit this weekend, checking out Purdue.

"It was a nice trip, a nice, fun trip," said Fletcher, a 6-foot-1, 245-pounder from Dr. Krop High School in Miami. "There's nothing bad to say about it.

"They have a good engineering program and all the players are really cool; I could talk to them. And the coaches are cool, Coach (Danny) Hope seems like a real cool coach.

"They were telling me a lot about their engineering program, because that's what I want to major in, and I could get some playing time because they have some linebackers leaving. They just wanted me to come up there and have a good time."

Fletcher, a teammate of Purdue defensive tackle commit Brandon Taylor at Krop, was hosted this weekend by freshman linebacker Albert Evans.

He doesn't have any of his remaining visits scheduled, but mentioned Auburn, Tennessee and Mississippi as three possibilities. He expects to take his remaining trips in December.

"I'm going to take my next four visits," he said, "then make a decision."

Definite Run-Stopping LB, but would probably be a DE in our system. Oh wait, we are going to have a new system. I have no idea where he could end up then, but I like the fact he knows how to tackle.

"I am down to four schools; Marshall, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Colorado State. I will meet with the coaches from Tennessee, Marshall, and Colorado State this week on in-home visits.

Gotta make you wonder why the Big 3 in Florida aren't recruiting this kid. If they aren't why are we? He's slow for a DE not to mention LB.

the 4.9 40 they have him listed at cannot be true.

And I don't know why the big 3 aren't looking at him but he made a 26 on his ACT so it can't be grades. I'll take the Kiffins scouting ability on it though.

I just watched his tape. As a linebacker coach he isn't fast in his reads. Great on the blitz. Showed a lot of power on his bull rush. Gets lost in the follow doesn't take great angles. With his size and frame i think he will be put at DE or hope that he grows into a DT. He shows a good burst an the power to come off the end. But at linebacker i think his lack of abilty to read the play kills his shot at linebacker at our level of play.
