Chance Hall good to go! Awesome! When asked if he would start, Butch stated he would know more after the conclusion of practice today.

Really Butch....? Really? You are going to spend this presser defending your recruiting? I swear he cannot take any sort of criticism at all. Besides, we already have trouble as it is developing our 4* players. Give us tangible results. Stop defending yourself.

Until Butch Jones proves otherwise, yes. I have given him a lot of room to breath over the years and this start to the season has not provided me with any reason to be confident. Go ahead, tag me as a negavol, but I'm not going to pump sunshine when there hasn't been tangible proof of improvement. Show me results and I would be happy to support Butch enthusiastically. But talk is talk is talk until we beat someone other than UGA.

Talk is talk until we beat someone other than Georgia? Last year it was "until he beats someone other than USCjr...Last year I would hope you were ecstatic when we beat them. What's it going to be if he beats UF and UGA this year but loses to bama and aTm? Talk is talk until he beats bama? Talk is talk until he wins the National Championship? Beating UGA isn't like picking daisies...They aren't vandy.

He does seem to allow unnecessary clutter to invade his brain at times, I have noticed. Who cares about recruiting stars, who cares about 3rd down music, who cares about how many you've won in a row... Seems like his sole focus should be on beating Florida and not side topics.

Tangible proof of improvement? TANGIBLE PROOF OF IMPROVEMENT? Were you in a coma for the Dooley years? We had the worst defenses in Tennessee HISTORY! If you can't see the improvement in just 4 years (that was obvious after the second year), then I can't help you. :pilot:

It's not that I am not proud of where we are, trust me I am. Good lord people get upset if there is ANY opinion of this team other than constant positive vibes. I was ecstatic that we beat UGA last year. But come on, Butch has shown some clear flaws that he has huge trouble correcting in his own coaching philosophy. Excuse me for being a little hesitant when we have started this season incredibly slow with this load of talent. It's like people have already chalked up a win against Florida.

There are some legitimate issues to be concerned about.

What Butch said about Davis' star rating is not one of them.

At the end of the year, I’m going to go back and relive those. We spend so much time creating things that really aren’t there. We make them real when they’re not real."

11 year losing streak vs UF.
24-17 record at UT.
5-9 at UT on the road.
3-13 vs the top 25.
9-15 vs teams with winning records (through '15)
69th in scoring this year.
84th in sacks allowed.
71st on 3rd down offense.

IMO with the current trajectory he may want to burn the notes about the media and never relive the criticism. Right now the only stats that matter are 3-0, but Butch is worrying about "charting" the wrong crap. He better keep winning if his skin is this thin.

Think he's talking about tangible proof regarding this year compared to last year and proof that this can be "the year".

Of course Butch has shown tangible proof with respect to recruiting and rebuilding the program. He's also had steady improvement year on year on wins. What he hasn't really shown is that he can beat the Big 3, his most important rivals yet. I think that's the "tangible proof" he's taking about and, let's face it, in a year of enormous expectations, they haven't exactly looked like anything resembling a championship team despite the 3-0 record.

That, however, can change very quickly with a good win over Florida on Saturday.

There's obviously things going on that we shouldn't be positive about, like the slow starts you mentioned, but pointing out that Butch mentioned a kid's star rating is petty. To me, that's just Butch gathering every little detail about a player so that he can gameplan to beat them. Look, I'm not sure if Butch is the long-term guy for UT football either, mainly bc of his inability to develop players and his in-game coaching, but I do respect what he has done for this program and where we have come. He's built a solid foundation and recruited good players. I also think he's starting to change on the coaching philosophy, hence the hire of Shoop. If UT's offense continues to sputter, I suspect he'll make some changes bc he knows what's at stake. Another thing I respect about Butch is his ability to gameplan. Sure, we've been outcoached in-game before and have come out flat some, but I can't ever really remember a time when our gameplan was just terrible and we had no chance to win from the beginning. I remember very few times when Butch has been stumped on a press conference question about another teams player or scheme. I always expect us to come out with a great gameplan to win and not be surprised by anything, Butch is good at that, my hesitation is just his in-game coaching ability.

Bingo. 100%. Exactly. But no, I said something negative about Butch so I am now deemed a negavol D4H monster. Any idiot can see we have improved from when Butch has gotten here, but I'm not going to overly pump positive vibes. We are on the threshold but the next step is the biggest and toughest step, and I just have hesitations with our play this season that we are ready. I'm not saying we can't!! So don't put those words in my mouth. I just need to see it. Is there anything wrong with that?

Actually only the 2012 D was awful. 2010 and 2011 were merely mediocre, not much worse than the ones in 2013 and 2014.

It really is a reach to draw that conclusion. I heard him say that during the press conference and didn't take that comment to mean that at all.
