Tennessee Football Meets Its Match on the Soccer Field | Everything School

Tennessee Football takes on Tennessee Soccer — and things get chaotic fast.

Daevin Hobbs and the Vols step onto the soccer field with Bella Smith and Tennessee Soccer for penalty kicks, goalie challenges, “Nothing But Net” and plenty of trash talk on another episode of Everything School.

From PKs flying at what feels like 100 MPH to questionable goalkeeping decisions, nobody makes it through this challenge quietly.

Our "friends" over in Fayetteville came into the season riding high with a #10 preseason ranking, only to drop straight into a complete, chaotic nosebleed.

While we're on the off subject, lemme pass along an idea for any of y'all who want to make your family road trips something more engaging than a group isolated screen & earbud-fest...

The drives to our respective homes were 9 and 23 hours, and even a book-on-tape was a long time to remain basically passive. So during the daylight hours, one of our favorite "intermittent" games was to make up collective noun titles for the models of cars we saw.

A collective noun is whatever you call a group of something--like a litter of puppies, a school of fish (originally, a schoal of fish, but miss-written and then repeated by British dock merchants), or a murder of crows.

So we'd make up a word to describe a group of whatever cars we saw. Some are already defined, like a herd of (Ford) Mustangs, or a flight of (AMC) Eagles. But you can make it more creative: a pot of (Ford) Pintos, a trail of (Chevy) Blazers, or a round of (Mercury) Tracers. After awhile we got downright esoteric: a homer (Old Testament measure) of (Honda) Odysseys... a porter of (Jeep) Waggoneers... an esprit of (Lotus) Elans.

But my wife (IMHO) won THE all-time title about 5 silent minutes after we passed her favorite car--an Audi TT (the Bauhaus inspired model)--when she triumphantly announced, "A flush of TT."

Sitting in silence for five full minutes just to hit you with a flush of TT is absolute comedic perfection.

Wonderful! I will share this with friends who knew her! Everywhere we lived we filled our domicile with laughter--some silly, some inspired, all heartfelt. I wish I could give that gift to every couple. Thanks, bro!
