“The belief on campus is that Pruitt is done at Tennessee.“ - John Brice

I just don't understand how we could be hiring guys like Steele and an assistant strength coach and there is still talk of Pruitt losing the HC job. Any new Head Coach coming in here is going to want their own guys at all positions. These moves are just throwing away money if Pruitt is not retained. No way we start 2021 with an interim HC, which is what I see being talked about with the hiring of Steele.

In that scenario Steele would be promoted, and be told that he has to use the existing coaches who are still under contract. If those assistants choose to leave, he'll get to hire replacements.

If Fulmer tries to pull off a stunt like that, and Boyd and Plowman sign off on that sort of chicanery, then UT football will never recover.

The only other theory I can come up with is Pruitt actually wants out, may have made a settlement on his buyout and is getting ready to head to Texas or somewhere as a DC and less stress. Its known that he and Steele are very good friends, maybe he is trying to convince Henry T to stay as Steele is ushered in as interim as a solid for his friend and/or trying to leave the team as intact as he can.
If Pruitt did that, then he'd be the kindest person in the world of SEC coaching...and the stupidest. The business is too cutthroat to be that nice.

I think these hirings might be Kevin Steele’s. That’s my fear at least. If Pruitt is fired the chance is high that Steele takes over, which would make sense as to why there was a new strength and conditioning coach hired. Hopefully that’s not what it is.

Not really.

Pruitt's job status isn't related to Steele. And Pruitt would walk out the door with millions. He'd probably rather set up a friend on the way out the door than do nothing. It's not like it costs him anything.

December 1, 2017-
John Currie Athletic director of UT
WAS ON HIS WAY TO HIRE MIKE LEACH, and found out that the board fired him...

Pruitt is gone. That trip to Henry T is an either or Trip for Pruitt.
" Henry if I'm gone, come play for me at ---- as DC"
Or
" Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere "

Steele was a candidate 3 years ago. If Pruitt is fired, Steele will be the new HC, most likely as an interim with the opportunity to work himself into a long term deal like LSU did with Ed Orgeron and Ole Miss did with Matt Luke.

The outrage among Vol fans would be deafening, but it's not a bad strategy. Best case scenario, Steele circles the wagons and rights the ship. Worst case scenario, we're better prepared financially to make a run at a proven HC.

I keep seeing similar things posted about Henry T, but what smoke? Not saying it doesn't exist but I haven't seen a single thing about him receiving improper benefits or considering a transfer other than people here worrying about that as a possibility because he's our best player. I'm not sure what to make of the coaches heading out to visit him but it does seem likely that they're trying to solidify his long term commitment to Tennessee or perhaps they need to communicate some things in person so there won't be a paper trail? I'm rambling but curious about when this smoke began to emerge and from what source.

Why would coaches take a dedicated trip just to talk to a committed guy who has been our starting LB for the past 2 years? I mean this isn’t a phone call, zoom call or text. That’s significant. I don’t know when it started but the mere fact that it exists is telling imo.

Hopefully it’s a big nothing and HT is solid.

I think Pruitt is an *******, but for some reason I just think he’s a dude that would try and salvage what the program has left. It benefits him for his next job but even if you’re failing a real man doesn’t kick his feet up and say f it like butch did.

I think you are making some valid points here.

If they are going to fire him on Sunday then why in the hell are they paying for him and other coached to fly to Cali to talk to Henry T two days prior? He's still gonna be here thru next season.
To try to retain Henry T and keep him from recruiting him to Bama if he went back there?

He’s addressing the Sierra club on climate change and the effect it has on whale mating

"You see, uh, it makes the water hot and them real big 'ol fish-lookin things don't like jacuzzis. They think the ocean is a big 'ol jacuzzi, so they get all ornery and don't get frisky as much no more, aight." - Potentially Pruitt, in a speech as described above.

Interesting that both this and the Price tweet were sent within 13 minutes of each other. So either one of the two are wrong OR the Price tweet doesn't mean what we all think it means...

or they could both be correct. Pruitt and Steele are close friends, Pruitt could be doing his friend a solid before leaving
