Targeting Hit KO’s JG, No Flag

Im a 7 year TSSAA official and I have been taught this on the HS level with multiple trainings with videos breaking down targeting and non targeting hits. So I have a lot more than a damn clue! How much training have you had? I would guess none. You can't pull one or two elements of the rule...

Targeting Hit KO’s JG, No Flag

My reply is about the hit on JG the QB. He wasn't hit in the head or neck as the rule states. It doesn't say being hit in the chest, it specifically states head and neck area. Didn't see the Bituli hit in the Bama game. This thread is about the JG hit. JG's head is fine his wrist is broke...

Targeting Hit KO’s JG, No Flag

Sorry but no its not. The hit was in the chest area not the neck or shoulders. No I didn't like seeing our QB take the hit but by the rules its not.

Targeting Hit KO’s JG, No Flag

Its not targeting, It has to be a hit to the head or neck area. See the NCAA rule. Launch--a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area. A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack...

JG is a better QB off the bench than starting.

How does the media get things so wrong?

The guy is from Boston doesn't cover any team or even the SEC. Being from he northeast he sees a snipit on ESPN and thinks he is the smartest guy in the room, writes this article in his blog. He is clueless.

    To the SEC refs...

The one that really irritated me was Jennings wildcat run late in the 4th quarter, and the SC player is shoving him into the ground repeatedly, which should have been flagged, and then gets up shoving and swinging at one of our OL and still no flag. WTH????

Agreed, and JJ deserves it on the offensive side too.

    *****Pruitt post game comments

I'll say this, I think Pruitt did need that penalty. It showed these guys without a doubt that he has their backs. The team responded!

That was the biggest screw job I have ever seen

don't know, I guess it would take an insider to tell things IF something is going on. Again my post was to simply clarify position responsibility on any crew at any level, pro, NCAA or HS. I do know several SEC baseball umpires and an SEC basketball official, but I have never asked a question...

That was the biggest screw job I have ever seen

Its not the Umpires responsibility to watch DB's and PI. His responsibility is on the OL to monitor holding and illegal OL down field. Also watching DL as well. The back judge and side judges have the responsibility to cover WR, DB, and punts, kick offs and much more. They have the deep areas...

They are evaluated and graded weekly. The high level crews do get the bowl game assignments. Its done in all of the college sports. Its even done in Tennessee HS sports.

Man I hated working my HS game last night. You can layer up for the cold weather but there is nothing you can do for rain. Terrible night last night.

So thats why my package isn't here yet. LOL!

    About the officials.

This will never happen. They are graded weekly. The NFL does send teams some info on their officiating crews info early in the week. The teams know if their crew calls a lot of holding, PI, or personal foul penalties and will game plan to that. Don't know if the SEC does this or not. I do...
