Yeah, this has been weird.

No one is saying that Markakis sucks or is a bad deal at $6M. But that was the one position where a clear upgrade was available and they didn’t do it.

It’s not that everyone hates Markakis. They hate the opportunity cost associated with signing him while other teams are getting better.

It's pretty wild. On the baseball subreddit, fans of other teams keep saying what a great, team friendly deal this is while the Braves fans on there are almost universally salty about it. From the outside, I dont think it looks nearly as bad as it does when you are actually familiar with how this organization does business.

Of course. You see a guy who provided 2.5 WAR on a deal like that and you think “man what a great deal that is” but most people don’t know is we are really lacking in power and that Markakis was the same guy after May. A barely average MLB hitter.
