Looks like the heaviest rain is east of Neyland and will continue to lighten up! There is a large area of moisture and low clouds continuing to move in which could bring some light showers or drizzle at times, but overall, it looks like it should be mainly dry for the game!
Look forward to meeting you at a meeting soon, too! I think you'll really enjoy it. I first joined the year before I began college and have stayed active ever since.
Great! We'd love to have you. You can email the chapter president on the website for more information and/or sign up on the email list for updates on meetings, etc. I hope to possibly have another meeting up at the NWS around January.
Here's one that appears to update each time when refreshed. It's not of Neyland but it's right beside it. It's from the UT engineering website.

Great! It's a great way to network with other local meteorologists as well as the NWS guys. As for the math, a good attitude and willingness to try your best is what you need. That attitude will take you far.
And the lightning appears to have pretty much completely died out! :)
Should bring in some quick moderate to heavy rain with some gusty winds and then be out of here pretty quickly for the most part. Could be some light rain or mist hang around, but that won't be much of a problem. We can...
That's a great way to get into it more. The NWS guys are really nice. You may want to check out the AMS Smoky Mountain Chapter that usually meets over at UT every couple of months. Sometimes we'll meet up at the NWS office in Morristown as well.
Definitely study up on your math well! That's...
Hope you enjoy it! I've been a weather enthusiast since when I was a young kid. Finished my B.S. in 2013 and halfway done with my M.S. now. The good thing about being a meteorologist is that the weather is always changing and is really never dull. It's a new challenge each day.
This line of rain and storms coming off of the plateau is moving with a mainly easterly component. Lightning is decreasing with it, so hopefully that weakening will continue and just be moderate showers when it arrives in Knoxville around 6pm, could be some remaining lightning though. Also, one...
Absolutely! I heard CBS News calling it an assault rifle and talking about how they wonder if the assault weapons ban would have prevented this (and they seem to want to call semi-auto rifles assault weapons now). This INFURIATES me! I'm not going to go into the level of how wrong that statement...
I have my radar program running so it should hopefully update this image every so often (about every 10 minutes) with the latest radar. Storms are moving VERY slow because of weak steering winds. I also expect storms to not hold together long, especially after the sun goes down. There just isn't...
