Even taking a "Tennessee-first" attitude you could argue having as many Vols as possible playing in the NFL is 300x more important for the program than a bowl win.
Which is more effective in recruiting:
"We won the Citrus bowl two years in a row!"
or
"We have 25 players in the NFL right now."
McBride is universally loved because he was used as ammo to hate Butch more after he burned his redshirt. He was an average recruit brought in to shore up the QB for exactly the situation that happened: all starters go down with injuries and no one else can throw the ball.
1) Many many more players are coming out in support of him. Most from Alabama where he was around much much longer.
2) Reasonable worry. Maybe a hot head.
3) You'd be shocked how many coaches skirt chase on campus. It's just the ones that get caught.

The number of people saying he's a great hire compared to Butch is much much higher. Cautious optimism would describe my feelings right now. I'll firm up my stance when I see the assistants. And if we're only paying $4mil for the HC, we better break the bank on coordinators and support staff...
