Really exciting series! Glad it’s a home and home. After this, there would only be five other Power 5 teams Tennessee has never played - Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, Michigan State, and Illinois. Soon to be six with UCF to the Big 12.
If you’re looking for old and unique I have a Knoxville News-Sentinel from the Alabama game in 1928. First time the game was played on the third Saturday in October and one of the biggest wins in Tennessee history in my opinion. Covers Gene McEver’s kickoff return and some plays by Buddy Hackman...
The end of the 2009 game was my favorite. Vanderbilt with the ball down by 8 and just a few seconds left and they throw a pick six to Wes Brown on senior night.
1931 tie with Kentucky probably cost Tennessee a Rose Bowl invitation. 1952 Sugar Bowl loss to Maryland - still won the national championship but would have been nice to be undefeated. 1967 loss to UCLA may have cost Tennessee a #1 ranking to finish the regular season and the national championship.
