The best part about NCAA Basketball is that they can win their way to a championship instead of worrying about rankings or getting voted into a playoff like football. Any team who doesn't make the b-ball tourney never had a chance anyway.
The birth of reality TV with huge viewership in the 90's proved the low IQ of the American population. The news simply adapted to improve ratings and thus revenue. There is very little true journalism anymore....they all repeat crap for ratings.
I appreciate your opinion, but your wisdom is flawed. You clearly know nothing about Leach. He has taken TWO historically terrible programs into the top 10. That means something to me.
I still have a coke bottle from that year back when they made bottles commemorating good seasons. Tennessee had a very salty team that year and after the Ga Tech (I think) tie they went on a tear. I guaranteed a TN victory to friends who all thought we'd lose. If I only had money to bet I would...
Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed with you since I really thought we would compete for a playoff spot this year. However, I do think it matters to finish strong and end up ranked......see my other posts.
Good question. With being #1 obviously off the table they still play for the best they can now achieve given the situation. From the players standpoint they still have a conference championship on the line.
From the coaches and administration standpoint it's far easier to recruit and sell...
No worries.
It does matter because the players fans, school administration, etc cares where they are ranked. Higher ranking drives media attention, fan attention, high school player attention (recruiting),box office sales, t-shirt sales, etc.
Please explain what effort has to do with ranking? Nothing in my post inferred that. I would assume effort is typically a constant with a few individual exceptions.
It matters because, among other reasons, they play football games to win and be ranked with the goal being #1. I doubt there is one player on the team that doesn't know they aren't ranked.
Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe! I still remember what it smelled like after that victory and the look on Lee Corso's face with all the fans taunting him in the endzone stands during his post game.
I don't know the answer to this question exactly, but I can say that on 1/4/99 they had to kick me out of the stadium. Heck, I would have spent the night if they'd have let me.
