The players who aren’t good enough go down a level, and the players who were decent contributors take the biggest paycheck. It’s a good thing that our starter-quality guys aren’t leaving to compete against us for the SEC or in the playoffs.

Hope this Oregon performance settles down our fan base. The OSU loss was shocking at the time, but it really does seem like they’re just dialed in right now and the playoff format sending us there round 1 really screwed us.

The only way to fix the current issues are to have the schools pay the athletes like professionals and sign enforceable contracts. Make it like soccer, you can leave whenever you want during the designated windows, but compensation to let the player out of the contract has to flow the other way...

If anything I think it means more now and should only be used when a player is actually at UT for their whole college career. Right now it’s like “once a Vol, always a Vol”, and that doesn’t feel like and accurate description for most players anymore.

They don’t have the scouting network in place for transfer portal entries like they do for high school recruits. They probably just have a simple algorithm grading these guys because there’s no scout reports on file since high school. It will get better with time. Probably once Shannon Terry...

He’d be making more than Isaiah Pacheco, Kenneth Gainwell, or Jaylen Warren despite having shown almost nothing yet.

If he is playing at the level he was in 2023, he’s a legit threat to be the number 1 option. That a big if though. None of the guys we’re returning have past production anywhere close to his.

With how similar the CFB Transfer Portal feels compared to professional soccer transfers, loaning players out for experience would be the natural progression.
