I would disagree with the late comment. He is doing extremely well. Rockies want to see consistency in pitch movement in the minors and proven ability to miss bats.
From my experience, it is fringe top-level guys asking for too much money to sign. Teams see negative risk/reward for the $$/talent projection early but can roll the dice in the last few rounds. It used to be fairly common when it was a 40 round draft. You wouldn’t see $2M, but you’d see SEC...
The pick makes sense imo. The Reds will never (or very, very rarely) get a top-tier talent in free agency due to the ballpark and wind dynamics. Drafting is pretty much the only way to go unless you can snag a under-the-radar guy like Andrew Abbott (arguable if he is a top-tier talent though).
I'd watch the last few rounds for any big picks. Teams can offer quite a lot once getting through all the financial hoops early on. I was teammates and friends with several kids in high school/travel ball that got pre-arranged $200-600K bonuses in the last round of the draft (mid-to-late 2010s)...
It isn't the dimensions per se, but the wind tunnels create good carry. An example would be Evansville or ND last year with homers that looked like routine flyouts off the bat that just kept carrying. UT's homers (more talented, stronger players) are moonshots most days. A few of the 9-10 homers...
Amazing experience if you like the game of baseball. Not an amazing experience if you are accustomed to the peripheral stuff (concessions, fans, crowds, etc.).
But you can walk up to any field and see teams full of MLB-caliber prospects playing hard in front of 20+ scouts nearly everyday...
His jumping into the crowd to celebrate with fans was pretty awesome. He is just a master connector, and his ability to emotionally connect with others is elite. He is going to go nuclear on the recruiting trail this summer.
