It's obviously hard to tell when they play such vastly different schedules. Here's one final point:
USF and Drexel have 3 common opponents: VCU, Cleveland State, Old Dominion.
USF lost by 23 at VCU, beat Cleve St at home by 15, lost to ODU by 2 on a neutral court.
Drexel beat VCU at...
They've played 2 and beaten 1. I'm aware that the SOS is a significant point in USF's favor, but you need to win games. Villanova has the #4 SOS but they didn't beat anybody.
I understand what you're saying about 12-6 in the big east but their schedule was significantly skewed. Beating...
South Florida and Drexel both have 3 sub 100 losses. South Florida lost to Old Dominion who Drexel beat twice. South Florida is 1-9 against the top 50. Drexel is 1-1. South Florida has, as of right now, the lowest RPI loss of the two.
Just throwing a couple counter arguments out there.
I don't think any big conference team has been punished for playing in a good conference. The argument against a team like Northwestern is "because they play in a good conference, they got 11 opportunities against top 50 opponents." They won exactly one of those. Why should going 1-10 against...
I have Drexel right behind Tennessee right now, moving the Vols to 2nd team out. Still have Iona in, and the VCU win definitely helped them.
I also think that if Cal wins the Pac-12 tourney, it's a one bid league with Washington dropping out of my bracket and opening up another at large...
Bracket done for the day. I have the Vols as the 3rd team out, with VCU and Iona (I know I'm in the minority here) currently ahead. Regardless, the opportunity to play their way into the tournament is there, and with 2 wins at this point making the tournament would be almost a certainty.
I Wrote This last week just as a "what-if" scenario. Didn't expect it to actually happen. Iona played a top 40 non-conference schedule and has won a remarkable 15 games away from home.
I honestly don't know at this point what is going to happen with them, but they are pretty much the...
You're right, it's not bias. But hey, it's always better to be playing really well entering the tournament than to be reeling. Can't erase the beginning of the season, so you said it... Just have to get in.
Funny thing about Cal losing is that the loss just gave them another top 100 RPI win, since Stanford moved up to 94. Hopefully it's not an issue but Pittsburgh is sitting at #98, and if they creep lower, some committee member could potentially counter with "the Vols have 5 sub-100 losses"...
If you guys are really looking for a game to root for later, pull for Middle Tennesse in the Sun Belt tournament. It'll be better for everyone if they win the Sun Belt tourney. They'd probably be out with a loss to Arkansas State tonight, but the fewer teams in the at large picture, the better.
I think Cal is probably safe. A loss at Stanford is not the end of the world, and they'd probably face them again in the conference tournament with a loss today. Can't hurt to root for more losses though. If the Vols end up with 8 top 100 wins, it would be 2 more than Cal, which is a positive.
