1965 Army. Vols win 21-0. Start of Dickey run of success through 1969. Ended season #7 with 1 loss and 2 ties. Vols only lost 1 home game during my student years…1968-1971…a 1 point loss to strong Auburn team.
Bama, Kentucky and Vandy make sense for Vols. Have played by far most games against these three than any other team.
Don’t give a flip about playing Ga or Gators every year. Will still get them 2 of every 4 years, probably one or the other every year.
Somewhere between 8 to 10 regular season wins. 9 most likely but better chance of 10 than 8 imo. Get to 10-2 and make playoffs again with likely home game at Neyland this year.
Vols have excellent defense, strong special teams and lots of new faces on offense that are very talented plus...
Lot of big upsets through the years.
The game today against 10-0 UGa has vibes of our big upset win over 10-0 Penn State to end season at Neyland in 1971. Penn State had won 15 straight games and complaining because they were not ranked #1. They were strong favorites against our 8-2 Vols...
Because the stakes were so high and late in the season…8-0 Vols vs. 8-0 Hogs with Vols having great comeback victory, this is my favorite game I have ever been to in Neyland. And I started going in 1965.
My wife and I were at the 83 game in Birmingham and loved the big upset win. Also attended the 85 win in Birmingham and the 99 win in Tuscaloosa. Almost nothing better than an away victory over Bama. Also went to 87 loss but 3-1 overall in games at Bama pretty good.
GoVols!
UK does view Vols as a big bb rival. I lived in Louisville area during the Earnie and Bernie era; and they hate Tennessee with a passion. While UK has beaten Vols more than any other foe, Vols have also beaten UK far more than any other team.
