Petition to rehire Bruce Pearl

Furthermore ccm has proven that he can take talent and create decent teams with them sometimes. Sorry, I did not know that the goal of our program was to MAKE the tourney and not compete for championships. Do any of you ccm supporters truly believe that he can actually coach us to a final four? I don't!

I never brought up Martin.

You think Pearl can? He couldn't get the winningest team in school history past the Sweet 16, needed an extremely fortunate draw to get to the Elite 8, and went 19-15 with a pair of McDonald's All-Americans. His best days are behind him.

How many times in the History of Tennessee basketball had any of those things happen before Bruce Pearl? Don't look it up, I will tell you - ZERO

The door was wide open for UT to play Duke for the national title once they got past OSU. I'd actually call getting stopped at the Elite 8 an underachievement considering Michigan State had lost its best to player to injury in the round of 32 that year.

An Elite 8 doesn't look quite as elite to me when the likes of VCU, Butler, and Wichita State have all been to the Final Four or better since then.

We are talking UT basketball - the only time has been with Pearl - got lucky with his hire - the only reason we are even interested in basketball at tennessee is because he revived the program - Pearl is due some respect for that - Martin is better than most of the coaches we have had lead our program- but he is following Coach Pearl - you can be disappointed in an elite eight - fine, but it may not happen again in your life time

Mears lost to Syracuse and VMI in the first round of the NCAAs in the Ernie and Bernie years. Mears' post season record (NCAA, NIT, CCA) was abysmal.

So you and those you speak for are bandwagon fans? I know you don't speak for me, I was watching UT hoops when Wade Houston was coach. If you could survive those years and still be a UT hoops fan, then you truly deserve to call yourself a fan. Damn those years were painful.

Yes, he consistently got us in the tourney, and I guess he gets no credit for providing us with our winningest team in school history. His last year he still got us to the tournament even with the suspension and the drama surrounding his future. And why would his best days be behind him, what leads you to this assumption? You guys can say mears, Martin or any other coach we have had, but pearl produced the most entertaining and consistent and best teams we have had in our men's bball program. BBB!

Some of us bandwagon fans as you call us were watching and listening to games when you were still pooping yellow. And we are tired of mediocrity.

I have a UT Yearbook cost me three dollars With a picture of Coach K when he was a rookie coach At Army- I went to the Omni in Atlanta and saw UCLA versus UT Play when UT had Bernard King And Ernie G. If you call me a bandwagon fan how do you describe yourself?

"Ray in the Way", "Willie Gault is running to the Capital", "bottom !!!" And the National Championship is clad in ORANGE

Mears is being criticized for underachieving in the postseason, and the point is Pearl's best team underachieved in the postseason.

I don't know that taking a program further than it's ever been, and also getting beat by a higher seed is underachieving. He superseded all expectations we had to that point.

How would I describe myself? Well, I'm not the guy hoping the Vols lose so we can bring back a coach that put us under NCAA scrutiny all because he couldn't be truthful about a stupid cookout. I am the guy who would love to see us continue to win games, because winning is much more fun than losing. I'm also the guy who will follow the Vols through good times and bad. I'll be vocal about firing a coach when he isn't doing his job, but given we're on the verge of making the tournament, I find it hard to argue that CCM isn't doing his job.

Pearl made his own bed. Those blaming UT officials for him doing so are delusional. I guarantee he was not encouraged to lie to the NCAA by anyone in the UTAD. Blind loyalty to Pearl has now reached Fulmer levels. Hypothesizing where we would be as a team if Pearl was still coach is like saying we would have 4 more NCs in football if only we had given Phil a chance to right the ship.

People need to stop living in fantasyland and deal with reality. Reality is Pearl was justly fired and CCM, though admittedly still a questionable coach, has us knocking on the tourney door.

If you're such a big Vol fan, then be happy we're winning. Stop with the "yeah...but". There is no factual evidence that Pearl would still be enjoying the same success at UT now as he did before. It cannot be proven or disproven. It's idle speculation that serves no purpose. What's not idle speculation is we finished the season strong. Now we head into the SEC tournament with some momentum we can hopefully capitalize on. From there, hopefully we can have a strong NCAA tourney run. Admittedly, we could fall flat in our next game, but let's hope for the best, not the worst.
