IMO, Hart showed he somewhat cared by not giving in last season. If Hart believed in Martin, why not offer the extension last season, especially with the talent we had coming back? Like a lot of us fans, I think Hart is in a "show me what you can do" kind of mode. Hamilton likely would have extended him last season.

First off, you don't fire a guy or talk contract 2 years into a 5 year unless he had the most talented roster in the league/nation and did nothing with it. That was HARDLY the case. You get into a habit like that as an AD and the only candidates you'll have are asst's coming out of DivII .

Secondly, Martin took the hand he was dealt and matched the previous years total record and beat the SEC record and he didn't have Tobias Harris or Scotty Hopson to work with. He improved a little on that his second year. He has a chance to improve on year 2 this year.

Question to think about, does Hart consider (?) Martin backing into the tourney if we make as a success or hand of fate..SEC is pretty bad this year and on paper should have already had this decided about the tourney by winning the games we should have. Just a thought.

lol! It was a hand of fate that got UT in the NCAAT in 10-11. How do you make the NCAA's with a lousy 18-13(8-8) to finish the year and then 19-14(9-9) after the tournament? If we're basing making the tournament on these numbers we should be a lock this year.

Saying he would get fired if he doesn't hire Pearl is silly.

However, if he passes on Pearl and goes and hires some low rent basketball coach like we got 3 years ago, it's going to be very ugly for him if Pearl rolls into town in a maroon blazer and mops the floor with us in TBA.

Have some friends that know some that work closely with UT admin and they were told as recently as last week that Cheek is the hurdle because "Bruce lied to his face 2 separate times about everything and will never be hired back." Just relaying info. Hope its wrong. Really tired of JImmy Cheek honestly. I would say he could probably feel that way but if big money donors push for it then anything can happen.

And this is a surprise to anyone? If I'm lied to I instantly do not like or trust you. Cheek did not lie to anyone, Bruce did, his coaches did. All this BS about how there was supposed to be a walk through, a warning, etc. Do some of you not get it? It was up to Bruce to know how bad the charges might be if he just told the truth. The admin lost faith in him once they saw he was not in control.

I keep hearing Bammers name but honestly, there is probably a 0% chance of Grant leaving Bama this season. I do agree that he's gone next year but no way this year. Auburn would be a good fit for Pearl but I doubt he does that. Boston College or Clemson is the only two schools I see landing Pearl off hand.

Auburn is'nt a good fit for anyone. They care the least amount about basketball of all the SEC teams. Obviously.

We are not the Board of Directors and the men's Basketball program is not their only focus. It's just a hot topic right now.

People will attend games no matter what the situation or who the coach is at the moment. May not be at full capacity but people will attend.

Not attending games just costs Tennessee athletics and puts them on life support because it cannot sustain itself and inhibits us from hiring a top tier coach. It's funny how fans feel entitled and spend others money they would not be willing to if it were their own bank accounts. Then when the University makes a hire the same fans state we spent to much money.

Bruce Pearl is a no-brainer and the first time he walks into TBA as an opposing coach all hell is going to break lose. It may happen, but we may have a better coach on our sidelines when he does.

Hart didn't hire this guy, Hart knows basketball, there is a standard and the bar has been set. The AD has been swamped with correspondence and any shown non support of Martin or this team by the AD at this time makes the UTAD, the BOT, the president, and the Governor look like idiots.

Fans are different because they are not in the decision making process. So rail away. In other words, give it time and we are in a wait and see mode.

He seems to have survived it fairly well. Good paying job, new wife, out of the jail house soon, already had a coaching job offer, living well, people pay him for his basketball opinion and he is still loved by many.

Not because of the firing of Bruce Pearl but because they showed me how much they cared about UT basketball when they made the hire.

I respectfully disagree. The UT could care less about feelings of the fan base. Unfortunately all they look at are the spreadsheets. If the financials say fire the coach, the coach gets fired. Continuing to support mediocrity breeds more mediocrity.
