Maybe so, but it would suck to fire Martin, try to do an end around by hiring Jones to get to Pearl in August only to have the NCAA say "nice try but, NO!" Then next years season would truly be a disaster.

My thoughts are, if you fire Martin you can't really get Pearl this year without taking a huge risk . If you really want Pearl you gotta keep Martin for one more season so you can hire Pearl clear of his show cause. JMO

Yea, waits till the very end of season to get his team playing good. Why couldn't he do that at the beggining of the season? Makes absolutely no sense.

Lmao. Only offers this guy is going to be getting any time soon are from mid-majors, which is where he belongs. Although, CBP could potentially find an opening for him as an asst. on his staff, I suppose.

Jerry Greens final season his team went 18-1 at the beginning of the year. It's how you finish.

This team has played well at times this year.

One of the problems I have with Martin is the inconsistencies. They hammered Va. then lose twice to A&M.

LMAO. Martin is likely to back into the tourney. Make a deep run. Last two games the Vols have shown some intensity on Defense and Offense. If the deep run occurs it will be extremely difficult to get rid of him or let him go. If the AD keeps him then the extension comes of 2, 3 or 4 yrs which means more addition and subtraction from the budget. May ought to cut losses early versus later.

If they let him go who can we afford or who will come. If it is Bruce, the Show Cause is evidently an issue I believe we can appeal it for early release, but it may take the NCAA a year to get around to it.

What a mess....Catch 22 syndrome. Best Scenario is not an option as a Vol fan. Again should have never been in this position.

Jon Brice explained why Counzo was hired on 104.5 the other day. He said several coaches were interested in the job but scared of sanctions.

Then, we are back to a wait and see mode.

If this team makes a run in the tourney and I don't know what to call a decent run Sweet 16 from the play in game or Elite 8 from the play in game then do we let him go based on the obvious Inconsistency that has haunted this team for three years not just this year...

My God, we lost to Austin Peay at Home has everybody forgotten that lost.

In short, some of the Vols got selfish with the ball and allowed their offensive struggles to affect their defensive effort.

This was the problem 2 years ago, and it seems to be a lingering nemesis.

So, does anyone think Coach Martin (should) stays if he wins out and makes it to the round of 32 in the Tourney? Considering if he makes it in after the SEC tourney.

Why so? I'm on the fence on that scenario. He would have at least earned another year, but the inconsistency of his teams make me believe that the future would be more downs than up to offer more than one more year.

This has been probably been the 2nd best team I've seen in the last 10 years.

He wins two he keeps his job but not sure about extension. (?) No one really wants him to fail but just like Serrano in baseball..time to see something, Daves doing his part!

I meant after three years, this is what a turn around(baseball) should look like. Good comparison, bad delivery by Witchie. lol Dave Serrano WANTED to be the coach. not just the opportunity. thats a Vol my book! lol Cuonzo has the talent but .... I think he has to win two, ..one can be called backing into it, Two shows promise..?

Kind of like Pearl does now. I think he will wait but the opportunity may not ever come. Hard to politic for a vacancy (job) that is not available.

The baseball turn around is something you can look to next year and also see that this team will do nothing but get better. As with our Basketball team, you can only question where are we headed.

Because as I've said several time, if UT fires Martin after that scenario, they better have Pearl in the bag because good luck getting any quality coach to even consider us.
