Petition to rehire Bruce Pearl

This may actually work in the Vols favor. If Martin does make it to the tournament, I don't see Hart making the move on him thus giving him another year. Most agree that next year will be worse and very well could be a .500 type year. If Bruce is on the market then and the Vols have a .500 type year, the cry for Pearl this year will pale in comparison to next year. All conjecture on my part.

I thought Martin was leaving Tennessee this off season by his own choice?

The usual group of martin lovers are trying to slow or derail the movement.
I know they say they would support Pearl, but, the truth is they would rather stay in mediocrity and let the program die a slow death than to forsake their hero.

So many false statements and attributions I hardly know where to begin.

1: usual group ... who dat?
2: Martin lovers ... nah
3: trying to slow or derail the movement ... nope ..
4: I know they say ...you DO?
5: they would support Pearl ... again .. nope .. Pearl has too much baggage
6: the truth is ... you don't know whacher talkin about
7: they would rather stay in mediocrity ... &
8: and let the program die a slow death ... not a description of any fan I ever met
9: than forsake their hero ... Zo's not my, and probably not any reasonable fan's hero. He's a young coach in his 3rd year of Div 1 who it looks as if will get to the dance in this his third year. He's been on the bubble the previous two. Granted, it's been an up & down year. If he makes it Hart should extend his contract so he can recruit, and we'll see how he does next year. If he doesn't, his replacement should not be Pearl. Again, too much baggage. It should be someone who can recruit blue chip players on his own name because Tennessee Basketball can't do that.

If Pearl isn't the future of this program then I have little hope that this program has a future. I've been watching UT basketball for 40+ years and the most exciting time in those 40 years have been the 6 years CBP was coach. Second most exciting was the Ernie and Bernie years.

They don't want to hear that. Now be a good Nazi and agree with them.:)[/QUOTE]

We don't care if you say it, because you're in the minority that think Pearl is the only hope for the program.

Don't bother; he's a lost cause.

[eQUOTE=vols 30;9940723]Agree, Many candidates out there besides Pearl. I love Bruce, but he's not the future of this program(neither is Cuonzo)

I was around for both. Even the early Mears days were entertaining. Never understood Devoe and though I liked O'Neil he was just dry and thought he never had the support of the AD. Wade brought Alan and Buzz just smiled a lot. Almost forgot about Green, I always thought you could see his style of play (Coaching) at any city park in New York.

Every Player on Pearl's team had an unique story that was Marketed to the fan base well and the media bought into it. Think about it.

Pearl was going to be a tough act to follow unless you opened up the financial coffers and bought a coach that could make you forget he even coached here.

If Tennessee goes dancing, expect Hart to do the obvious and make a statement how the university supports Martin and if questioned about why he didn't nip this earlier and show support publicly he'll play if off like firing Martin was never a question.

Agree with this about 80% because that would be the norm, but does he extend him is the question.

He makes the statement without extending him, then I will not believe a word of it. I will just laugh and say he bought it. Or does he throw him another $50k raise and leave it at that.

If he does, he's an idiot in more ways than one. There is only two scenarios I see that can happen. ...Martin is extended or fired. If Hart chooses not to extend him, he's throwing the basketball program off a bridge because no coach can recruit without some hint of a future to say to kids "I'm here for the time being". Hart will either believe Martin is our guy or not...so I don't see any possibilities of not being extended unless he's fired (especially after ducking the extension obstacle last season)

IMO, Hart showed he somewhat cared by not giving in last season. If Hart believed in Martin, why not offer the extension last season, especially with the talent we had coming back? Like a lot of us fans, I think Hart is in a "show me what you can do" kind of mode. Hamilton likely would have extended him last season.

This is the reason I think he may let him go. Plus the fact that he did not hire him and the fact that he did give Dooley enough rope to hang himself. I hope we get into the NCAA, but I would like to think he is gone regardless barring a deep run.

Witch Doctor say..
Hart said before the season when asked about Basketball " its a tournament sport, you should be in the tourney(sic)
and "we are paying for results not potential" I ask earlier if backing into the tourney and relying on the hand of fate to get in, good enough?" Harts here to win. its his legacy too. lol

Agree. I hope we get into the Tourney too, but does that mean Martin gets an extension if UT drops their 1st game? This is the worst case scenario....IMo

I agree. Regardless if Tennessee dances this season or not, Martin is not the right person for the job. I think its going to be difficult firing a 3rd year coach who went to the NCAA tournament and any coach with anything to lose (not named Pearl) would probably frown on it and be least likely to take this job if a similar one was offering similar money.

Witch Doctor agree..
Hes a great role model, GREAT recruiter and a guy YOU want to succeed. Just not feeling like its good vibe unless he can do something in the tourney. No one should hate him. Its just not his job, Its Pearls. I know nothing, but, Im starting to think some of this is cooked (?) we shall see.( I have heard some CRAZY unconfirmed stuff, but Im not that guy...and I dont include ANY of it in my belief about Pear getting the job or posting on here.) REPEAT NO INFERENCE here.

what other coach wants this? His agent is going to tell him to avoid with this riff going. Plus Tennessee is cheap, man we're cheap

If we fire a coach who just made the NCAAT, and especially if he wins 1 game, then they better have Pearl lined up because there isn't another quality coach who would even consider this job.

Yup. Not to mention the negative publicity that would come along with that. We'd get slammed hard in the media. If we fire Martin in such a scenario, we could guarantee it would be someone you have to Google to find out who Hart just announced as our new coach. Fans would still be pissed, ppl would laugh at us and nobody wins in that case.

If CCM makes the tourney, he's not getting fired.

Didn't Green make the tourney the year he was fired?
