My opinion, if you are going to be a successful BBall coach at Tennessee and if you have a stoic, introverted personality, such as Martin, your only option for longevity is to win consistently, do well in the SEC tourney, get NCAA bids and if you miss the NCAA and go NIT, you need to go deeper than an embarrassing 1st/2nd round.
As a long time donor and alumnus, living outside of Tennessee, my perception is that Martin does not actively market the University, engage the students, alumni or fans or display any outward passion toward the University. (See Butch Jones, Ray Mears or Bruce Pearl). Had he exhibited any of those skills or traits, I don't think he would be in the spot he is in now. I articulated this, and the fact that after 3 years as our coach, I still have people ask me who is Tennessee's Basketball coach, in my note to Cheek and Hart.
That being said, I support my Alma Mater and those student-athletes who chose to come to Tennessee. I would never hope for them to lose as a means to an end for replacing a coach. CCM has not demonstrated to me that he has the skills, personality or passion to succeed at Tennessee. I'm of the opinion, that if he were let go, I think CBP is a very good, if not the best, option.
