Has some very good points, and I would be ecstatic if it happened. But, I believe it is a real longshot. If Hart really has aspirations to be the next SEC commissioner, then he is going to be cautious with his decisions.
Wow I'm getting cold chills just thinking about it!!!It will never happen. Bruce is NEVER coming back.
<plugs ears and says "I can't hear you" over and over>
Seriously though, hiring Bruce is, pardon the pun, a slam dunk for the basketball program. And as I and many others have said, the combination of Butch and Bruce would skyrocket the value of the UT brand. It's great to have one of those guys on campus, but both? Are you kidding me?
Can you imagine the field day the UT media and marketing departments would have putting them both in commercials together?
Serious question for all the basketball gurus. If Martin is let go, will UT be the best opportunity for Pearl?
As to the OP's posted quote I offer this. Bama Dave planned to retain Dools for at least one more season if he had gone to a bowl. That was even after the debacle at UK the previous year along with fruit basket turnover of his coaching staff as well as Duh-rick and Bray's issues. He was backed into the corner and had to pull the trigger by the fan base and boosters. Then he and Cheek proceeded to embarrass the university by begging prominent coaches (Strong and Gundy among others) while dangling huge dollars in front of their faces. They lucked into Butch and came out smelling like a rose providing Butch/staff coach as well as they recruit.
So this Bama Dave/Cheek competency thing in the quoted comments is a problem to me. Cheek has presided over the downturn of all major men's sports at UT in recent years. Bama Dave lost his job at FSU over some smelly relations with the top brass and segments of their fan base. He did not make the move he had the authority and the opportunity to make after Dools' second season and as a result caused the program to go even further in the tank as well as costing the UTAD millions of dollars in funding. Hardly top notch performance by either Cheek or Hart.
So color me skeptical of anything those two can accomplish as it relates to the basketball program. I am squarely in the camp of hiring Bruce back, he never should have been fired to begin with and they should have resisted the NCAA with all they had. That would have spoken volumes to future potential coaches that they stood behind their coaches when relatively minor things go wrong. In that case Hamilton was 100% correct with his recommendations. Zo will determine if he comes back or not by how the season finishes. Maybe Hart can get lucky with an up and comer like the did with Butch. Will see. Not counting on it.
If they did come to their senses and patch things up and rehire Bruce, it would re-energize Vol fans and the program. The recommendation they have a brother's keeper to keep him out of trouble is excellent. I am sure Bruce would do things right and better both on and off the court. There has never been a more no-brainer hire in my book than hiring Bruce back.
If it comes out that Hart spends one minute making decisions for us based on his future ambition then he can hit the door. This AD is at a crossroads position where we can go back to being top 5 or continue to fall. No room for anybody making decisions that aren't in the best interest of the University of Tennessee.
I wonder who CBP would bring in for a staff? Please no to Tony Jones! Start over Bruce and bring in a good X's and O's coach and one that can develop pg's. He does that and the sky's the limit because he has everything else down. But I just want that excitement back!

I live in Knoxville too and are well aware of what was going on. I agree with that all the negative stuff surrounding the programs was becoming tiresome. I don't think the basketball team was as out of control as the football team, probably a result of just numbers.
As to the Crafts, why would they hold a grudge? The could have kept their collective mouths shut and nothing would have come of it. I think about everyone would agree the BBQ was minor but it was the ensuing investigation and perceived cover-up that was this big problem. What the Heck do they have to hold a grudge about, they started the whole investigation rolling.
As to coach Martin, he seems to be a great human being. If you are OK with lackluster coaching and the resulting mediocre results as long as we don't have off the court issues then that is your prerogative. But, if that's your criteria for a coach then I am sure we can find someone a lot cheaper than what Cuonzo is making to make sure that the players stay in line.
There are very few calling for him to be fired before the end of the season. I personally don't think he'll be fired at all this season. They'll wait till the end of next season after we're a bubble team for the NIT.

I didn't see it in the other thread. Also, don't think it's Dane Bradshaw as said poster has been a member of Volquest for 152 months.
Hell that's the reason I own a PS4 now lolThe way I see it is that Clay Travis is right: We the fans actually have the ability to make this happen.
But the only way we can do that is to back the AD into a corner. Make it IMPOSSIBLE for them to get any fan support if they either keep Martin or hire another lackluster coach (which, let's face it, is a likely scenario).
We need to force their hand in hiring Bruce. The petition, as silly as it might sound, is actually a good starting point for that.
For those who think something like this won't work, think of this: When Microsoft unveiled their new Xbox, some of their used game policies and always online-requirements were met with so much derision and outrage from fans that the company actually reversed course and removed them.
Obviously that's not a perfect 1:1 comparison, but Microsoft is a massive company that had already invested billions in that system. Tennessee basketball is much smaller, but I think the fans have the power to get Bruce back.

Bottom line is that if there is no fan support for the coach ( loss a revenue), then a change will be made. I say good luck to the athletic department next year trying to sell BBALL tickets with CM still coaching and no tourney appearance.
