Depending on Ainge to actually make a play and close out a game (muchless make a orchestrate a game winning drive) is like waiting for a hurricane in Montana.

He did it last night. He did it against Florida in 2004. He did it against Bama and South Carolina last year.

How many bowl games has Ainge won again?

Zero. However, it's borderline retarded to claim that in order to win championships we need a QB more like Casey Clausen. Guess what? There isn't a QB alive that's more like Casey Clausen than Casey Clausen. We had him. We didn't win any championships. Maybe there's a problem that extends beyond our quarterbacks.

at least JC would give it his all.....he proved that against LSU last year.......I would rather have a kid like that playing and giving his all making plays, then a chicken back there that can't handle adversity

Man, this has been what I've been saying for 2 years. This guy doesn't bring any fire or leadership to the huddle and the players feed off of that. Not only that, but Cutcliffe is leaning on this guy and expecting him to make plays (evidenced by the fact that he would rather trust Ainge than the running game the past 2 weeks).

ainge is not and never will be a playmaker at the university of Tennessee... He's not a competitor. He's a vanilla QB. He's not gonna lose you any games, but he's not gonna lay it out on the line or do anything extra to win you a game, either.

Crompton won't do that either. You'll see next year. JC doesn't even have the respect of the other players. He's had a bad attitude and he won't be bringing any special leadership to the offense.

I have elderly relatives. Are you going to stop using the adjective "geriatric"?

Oh, I agree that the coaching and playcalling is very suspect. And to a degree... you've hit on something. Why is Cutcliffe handing over the game to Ainge's arm instead of leaning on the running game? At the very least, you have to agree that passing the ball the way we have done the past few weeks clearly indicates that he has more faith in Ainge/passing game than running the stinking football. And you have to admit that erik Ainge is not the type of player that you want to hang your hat on to close out a game or even orchestrate a comeback when you need one.

All I hear is "he's the best we've got". Really? How hard is it to play a vanilla offense and lean on a guy that has shown throughout his time here that he can't make a play to save his life?

Watching Crompton play, it's evidently very difficult.

What the heck did he do last night in the closing minutes that makes you think he did anything to save that game?

If by terrible you mean the other team has all their starters out andwe still have the majority of our starting skill players in, then yes.

No, I mean when the game is out of hand and the team is clearly out of it emotionally and mentally and the several times this year when he's been asked to come in on short yardage when it was obvious to everybody in the stands that it was going to be a QB sneak... and as a result, it gets stuffed.

What a worthless thread. I'm tired of these stupid cliches like "winnner". Guess what the major knock on Peyton Manning was until just a few months ago?

Now that I think about it. It took our coaching staff four years to win just one championship with Peyton Manning. We only got that championship because Florida dropped the ball and UT lucked into the SEC Championship game. Additionally, we lost to a pathetic Memphis team that season and got drilled by Nebraska in our bowl game. Manning will likely go down as the best QB of his generation. Now who isn't a winner?

we didn't lose to memphis the year that peyton won a sec championship ring, it was the year before. i do agree with you're post totally, however.

Guys the QB is not our problem Repeat with me THE QB IS NOT OUR PROBLEM

The QB is the problem if your offensive coordinator leans on him the entire second half and all he manages to do is collect a bunch of 3 and outs. 2 things are wrong with that. 1. Ainge is not the guy to be leaning on and 2, our OC should have more faith in our running game and not leave it to a vanilla/average QB to seal the deal.
