Preemptive Grammys Gay Marriage Thread

Yeah. I also saw Sean Ono Lennon next to her and I believe I saw George's son as well. They were probably there because after the Grammys they were filming the CBS special celebrating the Beatles 50th anniversary of their first Ed Sullivan performance.

That's way cool.I always liked Sean's music back in the day.

It's a constant battle being:
White
Christian
Employed
Straight
Conservative
Patriotic

It gets old.

It wouldn't be as exhausting if you just admitted you aren't as picked on as you like to think.

Why do they have to have it on TV? What's it have to do with a Grammy? Why do they feel they have to shove the lifestyle down peoples mouth?

I find the song it was set to to be rather preachy, but if you knew anything about it,then you would know exactly why they did it.

I know gay parents as well. And regardless of how 'fantastic' they are, ultimately it hurts a society. The failure of many traidtional families is not a reason to endorse same sex marriage or adoption. It is an erroneous attempt to justify something that is counter-cultural. Sadly, America has done so much damage to traditional marriage, that for many your logic actually makes sense.

I'm sure you are fine person who does a lot of good, but the position you just espoused is very sad. Basically, a child is better off in an unloving, damaged straight home or no home at all than in a loving home with parents who happen to be gay.

The America that has so damaged traditional marriage is straight America. Perhaps same-sex marriage will help in mitigating some of that damage. I guess we'll find out.

I'm no big fan of gay marriage, but I always have the same reaction when I hear that somehow allowing it will erode the institution . . . as if that's still possible at this point.

If you want to undo the damage to "marriage", worry about yourself, don't get in one until you're ready and work at having a good one.

Why is it show cased on an awards show?

War on Christmas, the liberal media, them dang gays. White, conservative Christians act like the world is out to get them when it's quite the opposite.

In today's society being white, conservative, Christian male is probably the second most hated group only behind black, conservative, Christian male

Ok. Thanks.

I assume you feel all the things you listed are simply figments of my (our) imaginations?

Good to know where you stand. You understand now I will have to remove you from my Christmas card list.

Yeah, but it's kind of like driving a Lexus around town and dealing with people looking at you. It's just not that hard to deal with.

Great advice.

If someone is worried about how gay people getting married is going affect them/their marriage, they've got bigger problems I imagine.

Not simply no fault divorce. It is the fact we, as a society, don't hold commitments and loyalty as being important values any more. Few people will work for the same company for more than 5 years, we move on average every 5-7 years, and change our minds on every little aspect of our lives daily. We don't teach our kids the importance of sticking to a commitment, so it is no wonder divorces are rampant.

Post belongs in the recruiting forum IMO

Meh, lots of children suffer in traditional marriages as well. The issue is good parenting. We deal with plenty of troubled kids who have several adults at home, mom, dad, uncle, grandparents etc, but few of those adults want to accept the responsibility of parenting the kids. We need society to stop arguing about who is allowed to partner and refocus on getting adults to accept their responsibilities to actively raise their kids. I see way too many kids sitting on the front stoop at 11pm, mom and dad sitting next to them smoking and drinking a beer and then the kids struggling to be successful in school the next day. We need neighborhoods to police each other and that message needs to come from societal leaders of all sorts. For some reason we don't want to talk about this issue.

I agree. The disintegration of the healthy family unit gets most of the attention while the disintegration of the village, which is equally important, gets ignored. Neighbors, teachers, the parents of (children's) friends, etc use to work together and not hesitate to discipline a child if they thought they were out of line. Now, everyone is scared to death of lawsuits. The family unit which may or may not have been strong in the first place is now left on an isolated island to do what the community (village) use to do together.

Great point. It is epidemic in my generation.

Would u fools be OK with the CMA awards promoting straight marriages?

It would be on equal footing as them having a straight marriage in that I don't give a ****. Would you be flipping your **** if they only had straight couples being married on a awards show? Absolutely not.

Sure, it's not hard to deal with, YET. If you keep ignoring it now, then one day you are gonna look around and your Lexus is a Yugo...you will be even more persecuted about your Christian religion, if not jailed for a Hate Crime...Your pay check is considerably smaller bc the Government says that everyone should have the same income, no matter how hard you work or how lazy you are, it's only fair...

Lets just keep ignoring it, head in the sand ostrich style.

75% of the US identifies as Christian. Your fears are unfounded and in no way comparable to your welfare example

You know damn well what was implied. Don't be coy.

Not so. He implied that some part of the Christian community is racist. That's what I inferred. You inferred something different. We corrected you and you still went on a defensive tirade. I'm not saying your complaints aren't valid. I'm saying you are being extremely defensive and not lending to a constructive conversation. If that's how you want to play it, carry on.
