'14 TX DE Dimarya Mixon (UT commit 11/9/13)

Thomas and Barnett are both over 270lbs already as HS seniors with very little bad weight if any at all, it won't be hard to add 20-30lbs to those two. I don't think Butch and staff see it as striking out on DT's, they seem to mostly target big/fast/athletic DL who will become DT's rather than massive space eaters who have to lose weight. Saulsbury, O'Brien, Carr and Williams will be the 4 rotating DT's.

You can't fix this roster at every position in 1 recruiting class, it's going to take 2-

. I didn't say you can't grow a de into a DT. I would like to see the day we don't need to. I didn't state we could fix every issue in one class. If you think were fine with 4 tackles I respect your opinion on it but wholeheartedly disagree. Butch could not forsee lambert screwing us but I don't see this team contending for the east until DT recruiting dramatically improves. I hope it's ok with you if I see our DT recruiting as below par

I think Barnett will find a way into the DT rotation. At 270-275 he needs to add a few, but will be fine. Derek is a very strong and athletic kid. Hood played at 270 on a much bigger frame.

Yeah I just find the talk about the DL being fine as wishful thinking.... I'm wishing it too. But it gets tiresome to be mocked about concern for DT. I respect you guys feelings of optimism about it, but ten years of suckitude has me focused on the position. I felt pretty comfortable until lambert jumped, but I wasn't lol'ing posters who were claiming he was solid the night before. Our lack of numbers at DT are a long ways from funny, and I don't understand being brought up every time it is discussed like it's validating their opinions and invalidating our own

We honestly don't know how were going to pull 5-6 out. Those were two complete guesses to who would step up in spring. I don't like our DT situation, and I wish we took Huertelou. He would help a little.

I didn't put words in your mouth, relax fella. I don't think we're fine with 4 DT's. Stop putting words in my mouth :)

All I was pointing out is that people were very worried about DL recruiting in the summer when our staff was turning guys down and had 1-2 DL commitments. Now we have 7 and are still going after another. When's the last time we had 4 DT's and 3 DE's in a recruiting class at UT? Been awhile. So, again, I was just pointing out things are looking good on the DL recruiting. Wasn't trying to punk out certain posters or lol at them. geez.

You can see our DT recruiting however you want, I don't care one bit.

Then quit calling us out every time it comes up, your complete joviality with the situation is cool I guess. If you don't care about my and leb's concern about it why you " lol to all the posters in the summer freaking out about it" you need to relax on the hate for posters concerned about DT

I didn't call a single poster out by name. You're the one that needs to relax.

For the record, StoVol, I didn't even remember that you were one of the posters so upset about DL recruiting. You can be upset about it all you want, go ahead. And I'll continue to be excited about it. GBO

Thank you for letting me be "upset" about it. I just don't appreciate they way you approach our views about it.

No I'm tired of you implying that our concerns were invalid. I don't dislike you Ron, it's just a conversation about football after all. I mean I could spend an hour searching the Poona, hert, threads among others and show you how, taken collectively, your comments on our concern seem to be interpreted as mocking and condescending, but you already know. If I didn't love you, I wouldn't waste the time to ***** at you

Nevertheless, my apologies sir

I think you and Ron both make great points. We have done a great job with the # and quality of DL we are bringing in, but we are still not where we need to be yet.

However, it does take more than one recruiting class to right the wrongs of past administrations. And I, for one, am confident CBJ will get us there. But I also must admit I am damn tired of waiting as well.

Anyways, hope ya'll have a safe and prosperous New Years.

Don't take the quote as a disagreement because DL is clearly the most concerning group to me right now

i think we have added a ton of speed and talent in our back 7 but I am worried about our DL

that being said - our DL wasnt any good this year so I still think we could see improvement on D even with a subpar DL - my hope is that we can get creative with guys like CM, Weatherd, Vereen, Jwilliams and get some pressure on the QB

now against the run i am really really concerned

but USCjr loses shaw/davis - FLA looks like a mess - Vandy is up in the air with JF possibly leaving - UGA is losing its 4 yr starting QB - so who knows with some luck what this team might do

i am much more concerned with QB than the DL - i think it is easier to win with a mediocre DL than mediocre QB play - although mediocre QB play would be an upgrade from last season

Of all people StoVol you pick a fight with Ron SWANSON? He's pretty much the most liked and informative person on this board. I don't think someone pissed in his wheaties, I think someone took a gigantic $hit in them.

It appears that we may had dodged a bullet with Lambert. While he may be a great DT, attitude means as much or more than just talent. We will be OK at DT with out him.

I like the flexibility of having bid fast guys who can play both positions. Reggie White worked out pretty well. However, if we can get Guys like John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth, take them every day.

All good thoughts/concerns. I'm not sure where I stand on DL recruiting. It seems better than recent years, but I agree I'd feel better if we'd landed an elite DT this year.

As for the East, I think UGA will once again be the team to beat. I think their defense will get a lot better (too much talent). They also have a loaded backfield that should take pressure off their new QB. Florida is a mess and the players seem to quit on Muschamp, but they also have the talent to make an Auburn-esque rebound if things settle down and they stay healthy. I think Mizzou loses a lot of key players and comes crashing back to earth. Vandy post-Franklin will suck and Kentucky will suck. South Carolina is a mystery to me. They always seem to me to be on a razors edge between elite and mediocre.

I'm still holding out until after spring practice to formalize my expectations for Team 118. But if a good chunk of the 2014 class develops quickly and either Ferguson or Dobbs take the handle at QB, we may make some noise...

I don't know anything about UGA's next QB, Mason, but I heard an interview from someone who followed college football who said that he is a Murray clone. He looked decent against Tech with little preparation. I will be glad when Gurley leaves because he scares me. I agree that UGA appears to be the team to beat next year in the East, but we seem to say that almost every year.

Mason had an outstanding senior year, even if it was only against slightly above average competition. Hw will be a good QB but not as good as Murray.

I like the additions to the line but I'm not sure we have a bonafide game changer at DT.

I don't think we have one right now. We have a few guys who could really be big for us 1-3 years down the line.

To me, our problem lies more with the lack of depth we have from the guys already on the roster than the guys we have committed.
