Greg Clark showed at least a little promise to provide depth. Not going to be a star, but you need those big uglies who just do their jobs.

Like I said, Heurtelou or another JUCO DT would be a nice addition, but people throw "need" around a lot when it isn't true.

Big fan of our Ron Swanson and respect his opinion. Just disagree a little.

The key regarding huertolo IMO is this.

Would he clearly be in the top half of the DTs we already have on the roster or committed??!

My assumption is he is just another guy when considering our roster. If that is correct then he isn't a take IMO

. I wouldn't be mad if they signed two or three more JUCO DTs.

Not trying to pick a fight here at all but statements like this just aren't reality in recruiting.

Having this opinion means also claiming those extra 1-3 spots must be taken away from another position in this class.

Which area can afford to give up 1-3 spots??

I disagree Bruin. If you can get a get like him, even if it's just to provide depth for guys like Carr, Vickers, Saulsberry and O'Brien you do it.

I feel like no one on the roster next year is a sure thing.

A couple random notes:

1. This is common knowledge, but I want to state it. I predict we'll have 1 or 2 guys who we're in the running for at NSD who are barely on our radars right now. Like when Maggitt pooped up. Or when Jernigan considered us late. Will be interesting to see who it is.

2. I am no expert at evaluating QBs, but I saw the JR highlights of Zach Gentry out of New Mexico today. I think he seems like a great fit for this offense and his accuracy looks money. Moves well, throws GREAT on the run, and can run the read option. Takes snaps from both shotgun and the I. Here are his profile and his highlights:

Sounds messy

I respect that. I just think our depth is fine for the first time in a long time. We just needed an elite talent like lamin or reed to elevate our DT play. My assumption is huertolo doesn't improve that

Meh - Obrien, Carr, Williams, and Saulsberry is a solid 2-deep. Lambert can move inside too if needed. Supposedly Vickers gained a bunch of weight to move inside. A JUCO would be nice but I don't think it's necessary.

If you look at all the guys the staff is taking in this class who are 260+, it's clear some will play DE and some DT. If the class ends up with Barnett, Lambert, Hendrix, Thomas, Mixon, Mosley, and Williams that is 7 guys 260+. Add to that Henderson and a couple other guys who could end up as WDE and the DL should be fine. That is ALOT of help in 1 DL class to come in and help the guys already on the roster.

I think we have plenty of serviceable type guys at lots of positions

what we don't have is game changing type talents

so i don't really care what the position is i say go after those

i don't know which Hert is but if he is a depth type guy that has a low chance of being significantly better than the DT's we already have on roster i don't feel great about taking a schollie away from another position

we have needs all over that field so just can't afford to get a serviceable guy on board and take away a potential real game changer

One thing I've learned as a fan of a team in the SEC, you can never have enough talented DL. I wouldn't be mad if they signed two or three more JUCO DTs.

I'd be fine with it if it did not cost current commitments their spot. IMO that is not possible as of now. I guess they could go ahead and take another Juco DT but then we may see HS DT commits look elsewhere. All a sudden that "they are losing the whole DL, and said I could come in and help right away", is not looking so much as true. Help right away and possibly in 2 years is not at all the same.
