Here is my 2 cents on this season and the coaching staff:
1. I thought at the beginning of the year that this was a 7-5 team (wins over AP, WKU, USA, Mizzou, AU, Vandy, and UK. Losses over Oregon, Florida, UGA, USCe, and UA), with a possible 8-4 season if we beat UGA or USCe. This was all under the assumption that we had a decent roster and that Mizzou and Auburn was similar to how they were last year. After watching this season, I know now that we aren't as talented as I thought we were, and that I greatly underestimated Auburn and Mizzou.
2. I'm as disappointed as everyone else here that we didn't make a bowl this year. However, I'm not going to put all of the blame this season on Butch. Were there times that him and his staff made questionable calls? Sure. There were also times that his coaching staff made great calls and good adjustments (which to be honest, I rarely ever saw that from Dooley and his staff). He also doesn't have the pieces to effectively run his system. Recruiting will be crucial to rebuilding this program. It will take a few great recruiting classes to make Tennessee elite again, but Butch is off to a great start.
The 2013 class was pretty good, so I will say three more recruiting classes. I do believe that we are contending for the East in two years though, without a full recruiting cycle from Butch. 2014 to me is still a toss up year, but i'm hoping we improve by two wins (3 with a bowl win) and at least show we deserve to be in the other games.
Early predictions......2014 8-5, 2015 10-3, 2016 playoffs ?
Palardy gets an 'A' ... Through out all this adversity, I don't think I've ever been more proud of one individual's perserverence.
Also,
I would be totally ecstatic if 56 played DE next season. (pipe dream,I know.)
I'm quoting this whole damn thing 'cause I think I think it's worth sharing again.
Pure. Freaking. Genius.
Union City lost their 1st game this year and haven't lost since. Play South Pittsburgh for the State Championship Friday. Good luck boys.
I don't think it is all that much of a pipe dream. It will be interesting to see if/how we get Maggit, JRM, And Vereen on the field at the same time next season.
I still don't know how you all lost to McKenzie. They were dreadfully terrible this year. Good luck to Union City in the State Championship! I remember a couple years ago my school put you all out on a 2 point conversion.
This would be a great line-up, and I think you will see it a good bit. When we get in pass rushing downs, I think Lambert moves to Tackle, Maggit slides down to end with Vereen on the other side. I personally think that JRM will be playing linebacker with AJ and Maggit next year.
