I get comfort knowing that Nick Saban ends this season pissed that he doesn't get to hoist another crystal ball. Also, that Bama fans are disappointed, even in their excellence

Many of them are cussing Saban. It is lost to history now but Bama fans are such ingrates that they used to cuss Bryant if he lost one every once and awhile too.

Yes, our staff could have done better, as all staffs could have. Look at the mistakes the almighty Saban made the other day. The fact is we have a bottom tier SEC roster at the moment, Saban would likely have the same record with this bunch. And the last thing we need is a new coaching staff in Knoxvile, we need stability above all else. Recruiting is on fire and that combined with coaching stability is how we're going to get back to winning games. No short cuts. So let's save the fahr coaches talk for at least another season or two.

The season is kind of a wash for me. Beating SC was big, but not making a bowl was also big in the other direction.

What I keep going back to is they were playing with their fourth string QB for about half the season--a guy that was almost unanimously believed to need a redshirt year to get himself right. Not the backup. Not the third-stringer. But the fourth guy out of camp. Add that to the thin, and by Vandy, beat up WR group, and it wasn't a recipe for success. The play calling got even more conservative after Dobbs' second INT.

Keep North in the Vandy game and UT wins by 4. Have Worley in the Vandy game and UT wins by 14+. My opinion of course, and all ifs, ands, and buts.

I am happy we didn't hit the 8-loss mark. As long as things keep going up from here, it'll be OK.

They could still quite possibly get to the National Championship game. The odds aren't in their favor though.

It's the win now mentality of which so many are afflicted. Very good point that there are no short cuts. And, there will be Ups and Downs. Some will call for firings after every 'down' and hail Jones as the best ever after every 'Up'.

I would love to know exactly how many predicted 5wins or less.

I don't recall very many at all predciting that.

Most here thought 6-7 and we didn't get there. Strike 1 is a plenty fair assessment as long as that same assement is willing to admit progress was apparent and better times look more likely than before

Many here also thought Missouri and Auburn were winnable games...guess what they are in Atlanta this weekend playing in this little game called the SEC TITLE GAME.

I know UF went up in flames but at the time we played them they were much better and were two TD plus favorites for a reason.

We were favored in 5 games this year. We won 5 games this year, one of which over a top 8 team that hasn't lost a game since we beat them, a win that is keeping them out of the SEC title game and the BCS championship hunt.

It wasn't a bad year.

One more win would have made it a FANTASTIC year, given the roster, new coaches and our schedule.

As the final Mr. Football award winner left the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center late Monday afternoon, one thing was clear: What a difference a year and a lot of hustle can make in the world of recruiting.

Last year at the same event, only one of the 33 Mr. Football finalists had committed to or even listed the University of Tennessee as one of their top choices. That included the state's only five-star prospect, Jalen Ramsey, who wound up signing with Florida State.

According to those players and their coaches, when asked at the time why there was such a lack of interest in the state university's program, they cited a lack of communication by former coach Derek Dooley and staff.

But Monday five members of first-year UT coach Butch Jones' staff were in attendance, supporting the four four-star players and Mr. Football finalists already committed to the Volunteers and making a late push for two other highly sought in-state prospects.

However, it may be the last time a college football coach attends the TSSAA’s award presentation.

TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress made it clear that college recruitment has no place for the high school association’s awards luncheon when asked about the guests afterward.

“We just think this is a special time for kids, and not a place for recruiting,” Childress said.

As usual, Ron summed up nicely what most of us were thinking. Kentucky (and maybe Arkey) is/are probably the only team/s in the SEC with worse talent this year.

Since many thought he was going to be a starter at some point during the season anyway predictions wouldn't have changed IMO. How quickly we forget dobbs was a pick to be the opening day starter by many posters on VN.

You are interchanging the opinions of different individuals.

Preseason QB predictions were all over the map. Word from camp was pretty clear that Worley was ahead of all of them, and Dobbs and Ferguson were in the back with Dobbs most likely in fourth. The decision to leave Dobbs home for the Florida game made it fairly clear he was #4 at that time.

Can you at least agree that fans opening day predictions are not usually very accurate and shouldn't be the primary meausuring stick on how coaches should be evaluated?

The prevailing thought was one of the freshmen would start by midseason. There is no denying that the majority felt that way in the preseason.

Now with that happening those same posters are claiming that it someone should have changed predictions. Silly IMO

Sure but Ron is the one bringing up preseason predictions and then claiming they would have been lower is we knew dobbs would be the starter by mid season

Ok, I see that.

Well, I think what he was trying to say is that given what we know now, seeing how much better the team was under Worley and how much Dobbs struggled, do you not think it affects how you judge the success of the season?

Basically given the circumstances at QB and the fact that we were only favored in 5 games and won 5, it seems like we met expectations, at least.
