Abso-freaking-lutely.

Anyone who gives this staff a passing grade for their first year is simply offering excuses for failure. I've heard enough of that, some admittedly from my own mouth, to last an entire lifetime.

CBJ doesn't get off the hook if all he can do is recruit with the big boys, you've got to beat them on the field.

How is it you guys are saying the same thing I just said but nobody is giving you **** for it? Breakerboy and his cronies are busy busting my balls. I even used your name as a reference a few posts back. :)

You're right of course. This staff doesn't get a passing grade this year. I firmly believe we would've had a winning record had they done a reasonable job this year.

Sorry it's so long, but Michael Palardy posted this on his Facebook earlier today. True VFL. Take 3 mins and read.

"I want to first off start by saying how blessed and honored I am to have such an amazing 4 years at the University of Tennessee. God has blessed me with such an amazing support system in my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and the faithful fans on VolNation. I want to thank each and every person I have met along this road that has led me to where and who I am today. You guys are the reason for my drive to be successful.

For the first time in my life, I can honestly say if I had the choice to go back and do it all over again, I would. These have been the best times of my life that will NEVER be forgotten. Even through all the adversity I have hit and all the scrutiny I experienced along the way, Rocky Top will always be Home Sweet Home to me.

Which leads me to this, THANK YOU for everyone who said I couldn't be somebody, for all the people who have doubted me, cussed me, and didn't believe in me. I am eternally grateful for all of you. YOU have been my fuel, the one spark I needed to get me to where I am today. I appreciate all the criticism ever given to me from you.

And I will continue to embrace it, because what you don't know..is that it has not only made me a better player, but it has most importantly made me a better man. So again, THANK YOU! for you are the reason for any ounce success I have in my life, on and off the football field.

If I had the time to individually thank every person that has supported me throughout my journey at UT, you better believe I would. I wouldn't want to have been a part of a better University than the one I am at now. As my journey as a collegiate student-athlete comes to a close, I will miss all the special memories I have had on and off the field being a Tennessee Volunteer.

As for my family, I love you. Each and every one of you have been there since day one, through think and thin. Your unwavering support for me is something I will cherish until my dying breath. As for my friends, you have made my time here so enjoyable and I have met some of the most amazing people and made some of the strongest bonds that I will carry with everywhere I go. And last but not least, for all the VOL fans!

Continue to be the best, it was an honor and privilege to wear Orange and White and play for you. I will miss seeing all of you on Saturday's in the fall. Promise me one thing, win or lose, rain or shine, support the guys in Orange and White, I know some people take it for granted sometimes, but they work their tails off day in and day out so you can enjoy College Football.

I know the past few years have been rough, trust me I know firsthand, but the future teams need YOU. It's been an amazing 4 years EVERYONE. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will do my very best to be a true Vol For Life wherever this road leads me!"

would play anywhere with no Dooley... :birgits_giggle:

Now seeing the prior posts, I hope folks focus on what I bolded. I will discount it as a misunderstanding by the person relaying this quote... :post-4-1090547912:

Simple, I'm beloved. :)

We won a game we weren't supposed to and lost a game we weren't supposed to. Move on. We are obviously lacking in talent, speed, and athleticism. Butch can coach and win. Bring on Dec 4th

Yea, you've clearly got some kinda mojo working. :good!:

I don't really care what say, to be honest. It's the truth. They just don't want to hear it.

I hope the staff works on their performance as much as the players this offseason. We need to outcoach a few teams next year. We're gonna have an awfully young team.

:)

I do find it all very amusing. Times like this I wonder about the average age of the posters in this forum.
You must have a sense of humor to survive Volnation! I just mentioned the ignore because it seems like every day someone is threatening to put someone on ignore and it cracks me up! I have never used the ignore feature because I like to read all opinions but some people have sure made me consider it! :)

Oh yea. VolNation has enough 0StarGenerals, Pedigos, and Bruins to keep you on your toes. :birgits_giggle:

I enjoy other opinions as well. Although, I've seriously come to the conclusion that some people here are either 12 years old or just bat**** crazy. :)

My vote is bat**** crazy 12 year olds.

Palardy will be a fine NFL punter IMO. It took him hard work mentally and he really went from a below average P in CFB, to one of the best in one year. Good luck Mike, do PunterU proud.

Also, speaking of Butch restoring his confidence, I can't remember where I heard it but, I'd REALLY like to know if this is true...

I heard Dooley would say to Palardy "don't f*** up" every time he was about to run out on the field.

I honestly wouldn't put it past him...

That's the way Fuad Reveiz says it happened.

Told it on one of the post game shows earlier this year.

I get where you are going with this and do not disagree on the talent gap at all.

However, tell me how Freeze can go to an Ole Miss program playing in the west division and still pull 7 wins plus a bowl the first two years he is there with just as bad talent? Yes - he had a great freshmen recruiting class. But they were true freshmen - how did he get it done? A nobody coach before he arrives without the best staff in America. UT had arguably better talent than them by simply having the supposedly best O-line in the SEC. They had no players or unit that was near the top. They bowl - we don't. Don't say schedule - theirs had aTm and LSU on it to counter some of ours.

I am not wanting this staff to go. I want them to get it done. :hi:

The answer IMO is schedule and catching breaks. One or two plays go our way in the Vandy and UGA game and this is an entirely different discussion. We played the hardest schedule in school history with one of the worst rosters in school history and there were only four games we were completely out of.

People are too wrapped up in year 1 results.

One year is not enough to judge this staff. It just isn't.

At worst Coach Jones will be like Ron Zook at Florida. He'll leave a boatload of talent for an elite coach if he can't win big himself.

This right here. I'm wondering if Hoke is gonna serve a similar role at UM when all is said and done.

Edit: I think CBJ does big things here. I'm just stating worst case scenario, will still be pretty good imo.
As for Hoke....he's recruited well, but I think he's a mediocre coach. The next dude in line will be the one who takes Michigan to the next level imo.

What are you talking about? You jumped into a discussion regarding the WR and TE coaches. That's the only people I referenced. Now back to your ranting Bruin 2.0.

Whatever bro. Bruin never stops. I already let it go and was moving on.

Maybe you should too. :)

Ron Zook? hahaha. Zook was a career assistant before getting the UF HC job. Butch has been a successful HC for 6 years prior to the UT. I know what you guys were saying, comparing the good recruiting, but let's not sell Jones short.

I'm getting really tired of some of you complaining about this coaching staff after they won the exact amount of games many of you predicted they would win. In August..."We're a 5-6 win team." In December..."We only won 5 games, FAHR EVERYBODDDYYY!!!!" smh.

Yes, our staff could have done better, as all staffs could have. Look at the mistakes the almighty Saban made the other day. The fact is we have a bottom tier SEC roster at the moment, Saban would likely have the same record with this bunch. And the last thing we need is a new coaching staff in Knoxvile, we need stability above all else. Recruiting is on fire and that combined with coaching stability is how we're going to get back to winning games. No short cuts. So let's save the fahr coaches talk for at least another season or two.

I think palardy will be in the league. Good punter who can also kick fgs. That will save a spot sonewhere in the active or inactive roster

Not only that, Saban went 6-6 in his first regular season at Bama and they had plenty of talent and didn't play near the gauntlet UT did this season.

Excellent post.

The frustration is high in Vol land. I think most of us want the same thing, but are just saying it in different ways. We want the coaches to recruit better players. Check. That takes time. We want the coaches to improve their coaching. Will know that one next fall. You don't get to where you want to go without both.

Most all of us want it to be Butch leading us to the top.

I think you missed the point. What he is trying to say, is that even if Butch ends up not being a great in-game and X's and O's coach he will at least leave Tennessee better than he found it. They weren't saying to fire him because he wasn't winning. More of a compliment to his recruiting than anything else. Ron Zook was a hell of a recruiter...

Only the first paragraph in my post was directed at the Zook talk. The rest was directed at the fire coaches talk that's been going on after the season ending up as predicted.
