We should be better on both sides of the ball next year.

So we return 2 good receivers and an assortment of subs, an injury-prone pseudo-starter RB, a TE with a gimp knee, an entirely new OL and a big ? At QB and it's all on the coaches if we're not better?

Lol.

Defense should be much better, but fans expecting every true freshman to be Cam Sutton isn't the coaches' fault.

Most people praised the coordinators for the USCe and UGA game. We have played an extremely tough schedule. Both sides of the ball laid an egg against Vandy, but games like that happened. We still held Vandy under 15 points with the lackluster performance.

We've played 1 and a half games of good offensive football this year. I liked what Bajakian did in the 2nd half vs UGA, and to a lesser extent what we did vs USCe. Everything else from him scares me.

Anyone notice how when we play a west team that they are top of thier game that year? Looks like ole miss will be nat champ contenders next year?

Lol.

The OL will have its bumps.

Outside of Neal, we return every skill player on the roster so yes I expect improvement.

Is winning today a bad omen for the coming week? The pattern was we lose, guys commit. What happens now?

If your sarcasm meter is that broken, you need to get it fixed pdq.

We didn't make a bowl game therefore we need a commitment. :peace2:

For those of you who don't have confidence in us next year, just don't watch the games then. I'm going to continue proudly wearing my orange and white and support this team next year. I have faith that we will go to a bowl next year. I see 6-8 wins next year, IMO.

Butch postgame:

Seniors had 42 coaches (including strength) in 5 years.

Monday, back in the weight room, prepping for next season.

Dobbs had "hurt his thumb last week, a little bit."

Imperative to improve team speed, #1 goal in recruiting.

Miller broke Reggie White's sack record tonight.

Will sit down and have a talk with Tiny

Spring will feature open QB competition

I think Dobbs had an inspired performance really against Kentucky.

I think a lot of his problem is inexperienced receivers. That's why I think he was able to hit Devrin Young a ton. Dobbs seems like he has decent decision making...albeit not incredible because of the amount of INTs...but this kid is a true freshman with no targets. and frankly some questionable playcalling by the OC.

you know he ran for a TD tonight that was longer than any one Tee Martin made?

this

Anyone think Dobbs won the QB job with his peformance tonight? I just don't see Worley being our starter with the read option.

Absolutely not.

First of all, it wasn't up for grabs tonight. That is what spring practice will be for.

Secondly, the TD to Croom was lucky as heck. It should have been picked. If the CB doesn't play volleyball with that pass, the statline would flip from:

14-23, 199 yards 2td 1int

to

13-23, 156 1td, 2int

Hardly the stuff of legends.

He threw a dime to Neal that he dropped.

Spring Practice will be open competition at QB. But again I don't see Worley being the starter because he won't run with the read option. So that leaves Ferguson and of course Peterman.

Ferguson might be the more talented, but Ferguson will also be a redshirt freshman where as Dobbs now has experience and smarts. It will be interesting come spring who is the favorite. IMO I think its Dobbs because Butch Jones is conventional and prefers experience.

I don't believe that Dobbs played poorly for a true freshman. I'll reserve judgement until I see him on the field next year.

If I had to take a wild stab at it, I would look for this scenario to unfold.

1. Ferguson
2. Worley
3. Dobbs (intent to redshirt)
4. Peterman to transfer.

Of course, I haven't seen Ferguson throw a pass, so this is pure speculation.

My notes from last night's game:

1. DY: For the first time in his career, Devrin received the ball after crossing the line of scrimmage. Given our issues at the WR position, I just can't figure out why he was not written into the offensive game plan before tonight. I'm not saying he should be the center piece or anything, but targeting him 4-5 times a game... especially Josh Smith's snaps, would have been a nice boost to the offense. He had 4 catches for 66 yards tonight. In previous games, 2 catches for 13. :dunno:

2. Palardy:
I remember Dustin Colquitt went through a stretch at TN, where he would almost comically angle the ball out of bounds within the 5 yard line, almost every time he punted. Tonight, Palardy repeated those exploits, with ridiculous bounces and balls just dying short of the goal line, as if it landed in cotton candy. It didn't hurt that KY's returner acted as though the ball was covered with cobra fangs every time it got near him. He will really be missed.

3. Corey Miller: Nothing beats that feeling of saving your best for last. He is one of those who have been through the wringer here, choosing to stay on board that fateful night Kiffin bounced town and Orgeron was giving invites to SoCal to our newly arrived freshmen. His 4.5 sacks in a game are a new standard, beating the great Reggie White. How awesome was it for him to get one last shot at the record, and then force that fumble in the endzone. That was his last play in orange and white, a memory that will always stick with him. My final play in football was a touchdown catch after dislocating my thumb earlier in the quarter. The memory is still fresh, and a highlight of my life. (cool story)

4. Neal: He really turned the corner this year, and will earn a paycheck in the NFL, at least for a while, and who knows... His season finishes with a 5.2 YPC average. 1124 yards on the season is good in the SEC. His intensity in the second half of the season was great to see.

5. McCullers: The big fella never seemed to turn the switch on. All the tools in the world for a man his size, and demonstrated every time he entered the "Circle of Life", but just seemed content to settle in games. He finishes his career averaging 3 tackles per game, with a total of 1.5 sacks. Oh what could have been...

6. Stoops: The man looked overwhelmed and stressed out. Kentucky is not going to do him any good. He already has a habit of ragging his team out in public, and with a team that has a losers identity, he will not go far. Sort of unrelated... how in the bloody spam logo did we lose to KY a couple of years ago? I could not tolerate this off season with a loss to them again.

Looking forward to the madness leading up to NSD, and then hearing about the EE's in spring and who is going to emerge as the QB.
