New night shift thread

I think we better beat Auburn if we want to get to a bowl. Tennessee on the road is like a middle school team. I'm afraid we might not even be able to handle Kentucky.

I'm not going to go that far. Kentucky is in even worse shape than we are.

Yeah they are horrendous. But if just a few breaks go their way and we play like we normally do on the road, anything could happen.

Nah, 6-6 is real. 7-5 would be awesome though and I'd love to see the world get shocked by us knocking off a top 10 team

I think the score would have been the same if we didn't even have a defense on the field.

I think the outcome would have been the same (a loss). But the D, or lack thereof, certainly showed where we are short in our roster and our game plan. What I can't get are the idiots out there screaming for Butch's, Bajakian's, Jancek's, Stripling's, etc heads on a platter already.

Those idiots fail to realize the fact they are starting from ground zero basically and have to have some time. Butch said it best in the post game about the variable of time. Going to take it, but most expect miracles overnight. And I don't care if it's Butch, Gruden, Saban or General Neyland himself, nobody is going to do amazing things this season with the roster we happen to have and the schedule we've faced.

I want us back on top just as bad as everyone else, but I've been patient this long, what's the difference in closing this season, getting a top 10 recruiting class in and coming out and smashing folks in the mouth next year? Because next year? Oh, the East is wide open.

*The following statement is said with no malice or feelings of being offended. It is said with no ill will towards any of my Night Shift Brothers.*

Paint me the idiot.
While I still believe in Butch, I have some serious questions about Jancek. I am fully aware of the lack of depth, but our D looks as bad as last years. I could even understand if they were wearing down in the second half, but the past few weeks they have been lost from the get go. It looks like an entirely different unit than we threw at SC. I realize that Auburn has an outstanding running game, especially the QB; but how hard is it to coach a player to spy him? I mean one that doesn't go after the running back every damn play?
The last three weeks have been tough and we all knew they would be. The D has been atrocious and embarrassing. I have to wonder if there was a real reason that Georgia ran Jancek out of the SEC...

I'm kind of on the fence with Jancek right now. To me, inheriting the dumpster fire that the defense was/is from going through four coordinators in the past five years, a 4-3, 3-4 and back to a 4-3, lack of speed and depth from poor recruiting, injuries at key positions, underclassmen and true freshmen playing in what should be veteran positions, three top 10 teams in three weeks...just adds up to a lot of factors that can and will give a poor performance from the defense this year. Not entirely to blame, but then again, has to shoulder some of the responsibility. So for me right now, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the abysmal performance on defense so far this year.

So the only suggestion I would make is pause in a wait and see attitude for next year. If they can bring back AJ, get Maggitt healthy, get this class of incoming talent up to speed and the current starters get another year to season and come back hard? I can see good things next year and the SEC East is certainly within our grasp.

Good point.
I pretty much have quit watching them. Someone let me know when CJ is in his contract year and starts playing again.

CJ needs to go. Munchak, and every other coach besides bounty gate needs to go. Greg Williams should be made interim coach while they get rid of the garbage. Stewart needs to go, and Locker should be done. He isn't great, and gets hurt every third game. This next class has great QB's, and one should be taken. I vote for Johnny foosball. Sorry if my last post seemed ill, wasn't meant that way. Your my boy Doyle.

I would think Brice Petty would be a steal for Tennessee at QB since chances are Manziel, Mariotta (if he declares), Bridgewater and Boyd will go higher in the draft.

Or maybe even Carr out of Fresno State or Aaron Murray if they wanted a pocket passer.

No offense taken at all. We are all a little frustrated right now. There is a real football drought in Tennessee. For me, it gets difficult to continue surviving on faith alone year after year.

ESPN shows no stats for him this year.

Curious. Didn't realize he was the #3 position. What I get for leaving it to Volnation as my info source on former Vols lol

I know Alex Smith was a good pickup for them; at least according to a guy I work with that's a religious KC fan.
