Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

I know several of us would like to see Mizzou challenged at very least. Here is what I found regarding Shaw and some others.

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw will not need surgery after suffering a knee sprain in the loss to Tennessee, head coach Steve Spurrier said Sunday.

Spurrier addressed that status of Shaw, and several other banged up players from the 23-21 loss in Knoxville, on a teleconference. Shaw is apparently "walking around a little bit" with a knee brace but not practicing. No timetable has been sit for his return.

Starting defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles also sustained a knee sprain in the loss, and fellow defensive lineman Gerald Dixon Jr. has a sprained ankle. In the case of both players, the status for Missouri is unknown.

Wonder if Neyland Stadium will do to him this year what it did it Bear Bryant in 82. It was the beginning of the end.

I'd be ok with that. I respect him as a coach. But he's better known for being a smug ass. He's been highly effective at backing it up, until he got Butch Slapped.

I said to co-workers and friends, at the beginning of the season, that I think Spurrier retires after the first sign of going back to being USCe. I think within the next year or two, he will be drunk and on a golf course, where his heart really is at right now.

This will date me but Spurrier is like JR Ewing. You just love to hate him. There is something about him I kinda like because I find him really funny.

I can live with 6th. It's the biggest jump of any team in a poll this week. We jumped from obscurity to 6th most impressive.

One stat that went a little unnoticed in Saturday's game. Shaw completed 0 passes in the 4th quarter. Thompson had a check down to Davis for 5 yards. That's it.

Not enough credit to our defense IMO. From the front 4 to the back end. Stepping up over and over in the 4th.

Couple of other interesting stats:

USCe was 4-14 on 3rd downs. They were usually long yardage situations so that helped.

USCe had 9 costly penalties which resulted in 84 yards. They also had 2 Turnovers.

Lastly, Shaw was 7-21 for 161 yards. If you take away the 76 yard bomb to Byrd. That puts him 6-20 for 85 yards.

This is just CRAZY to think we are 10 months removed from SunSorry's def.

Dooley became a multi-millionaire off the destruction of the Vol program. There can never be enough bad things said about him. I don't care how many times people say "get over it".

That is the way I feel about kiffin too.
kiffin effed UT so badly that dooley seemed like a big improvement...then the "not again" denials began...then realization, then anger...no need to move past anger at thoose 2 :)

Very happy now with this staff. Hope they are here a very long time!

I'm guessing sanctions worse than USC's is anyone thinking lighter? They are so hard to predict.

They already self imposed a 2 game bowl ban and I think an ACC Championship game (not sure on the last one). That should lessen the blow a little bit. Possible loss of schollies will be interesting.

The only MAJOR thing I see lacking in our defense is speed on the back end. Help is on the way though.

I've just rewatched the game again. Danny O'Brien played good once again. Mack Crowder did a good job when Bullard was relieved a couple series.

This was a total team win. We dictated field position. We had the better defense. And our offense closed the deal. Great win all around.

I'm still hoping someone will upload it to YouTube. I didn't catch the entire game, just the 4th quarter I believe.

How in the heck have we been hurting so many people? This 63 has 96'd a few players

It's not limited to Tennessee. Since inception of the 'AA Horse Collar and Targeting Rules ('08) lower extremity injuries have been on the rise, '13 numbers are even higher by percentage. This past Spring the Targeting Rule was amended (becoming more stringent) players fearing ejection are aiming mid and lower body making back, hip and knee / leg more susceptible. Anticipate further review and amendment to the rule following the '13 season.

Does anyone have the list of our commits that are playing in post season all star games? I know some have been mention, but was wondering if someone was keeping tabs.

With all those injuries no way they fire Richt. Whoever posted that they are in purgatory is somewhat right but remind them to look at our recent stats if they want to see the other side of what their purgatory looks like.

Spurrier is another that has no base for discussions of firings although more and more he looks like a man on the verge of retirement.

Brown is being slated for the AD job out at TX and that may come this season.

Looked to me like Spurrier took that extra time out so he could book a tee time for Sunday. I'm thinking he's already into retirement.

1st, 2nd, and 4th quaters were the most fun to watch as a fan, but to me, the 3rd quarter is what very well may be defined as the turning point of the game and season. They scored 14 of their points and took the lead in the 3rd.....and our guys didn't panick. They kept their heads and kept playing.

You can watch the replay of the game on WatchESPN. I have Comcast internet which allows me to watch the replays, however I don't have Comcast cable anymore so I had to watch the game live on a Justin.TV feed. Love the internet and the people who share their feeds.

They had 12 yards in the 4th quarter. Defense cranked it up.
