Shake it up, his ability to just even actually keep the ball on the read option makes him a better start IMO. That helps our run game out a lot.

No doubt about it. The QB keeping it on the read option once in awhile, and gaining a few yards, will make UF play much differently on defense. Hubbs has said a couple times that Butch didn't tell Worley to not keep it but that Worley had just elected not to run with it the last couple games.

Completely agree with this.

But I predict Worley will start. If the offense is moving the ball and scoring (I say this half-joking), he'll stay in the game. If not, we'll see Peterman in the 2nd quarter.

This is what I'm thinking too.

Peterman looked mediocre in the AP game, regardless which starts I hope they both improve. I truly hope the offensive play calling gets better as well. I'm a little negative on both fronts. I'm actually ok with the defense overall. At least we've had playmakers emerge on D. Not enough but some. We've had zilch on offense.

He looked better in the Oregon game though. The coaches have said he's been making a lot of improvements because he's been putting in a lot of extra time.

To be fair he wasn't playing with the ones or twos for that matter. He was playing with threes and fours and a team that was ready to run out the clock and get to w ky

I don't know how to 'splain it, but Peterman did look better against Oregon. He just seemed confident and in control, something Worley has not seemed like all year.

This is why I find it a little strange that everyone thinks Peterman or one of the freshmen will suddenly get the receivers to both be open and catch the ball. They have had very little work with the first team guys. If Worley's chemistry with the first team is bad, what do you think it is with the other QBs? We've at least seen Peterman in games, and he's been pedestrian. His passing stats are significantly worse than Worley's.

Having said that, I understand and share the frustration. Worley hasn't been good and the guys around him haven't been great either. Maybe a true running threat at QB can open this offense up and get things going. I mean, I know it can, but I just don't think it's going to be the magic bullet this early in the season. I could see Peterman or a true freshman emerging later in the year. Heck, maybe Worley settles down and gets it done.

I just think with all the new players and all the new schemes (even for our veteran O-line), it's going to take more time than we want to admit. And, sadly, I just don't think a new quarterback will fix it this early.

Just my very unqualified opinion, and I'd love to be wrong.

I feel like unless Worley/Peterman shows they can actually complete passes, UF is just going to load the box and we're gonna go 3 and out every time.

He was also playing with the twos in a ridiculously bland offense possible since the game was already locked up.

I'm in agreement with you guys and if they allow Peterman to execute the run option it may open up some opportunities. I'm definately in support of Peterman even starting the game just to shake things up.

This is my reason for negativity overall with the offense. We need someone to step up and make a play to soften this D. We will not get the easy runs we have been used to with WKU and AP. They could make us look worse offensively than even OR did. I don't think they can make us look worse defensively but we have to have some guys step up on O. I hope it's Peterman getting a few 5 yard runs and spreading their line out.

I agree with this too. I'm really not trying to be a Debbie Downer. I am really hoping Peterman comes out and provides a renewed energy on offense. IMHO Worley will be tighter than ever knowing he has Peterman looking over his shoulder. That's honestly why I would reverse the starting order this week. If Peterman fawks it all up then Worley can come in knowing his job just got a lot more secure. Otherwise Peterman can give us the lift we need and we can move on.

What if we've been saving Peterman and telling him to play bad to trick UF and he comes out and is Johnny Manziel Jr this weekend!?!

Like I said a few days ago, Worley may have peaked out in high school. Peterman seemed to look better at Oregon and if Worley does start and fails on the first couple of series we may see Peterman in the 1st quarter. Hopefully he will get into a groove and lead the offense to some scores. Our defense will have to play very good to give us a chance though.

Does anyone think that with the news of Marlin being healthy and getting more carries this week, that may be the coaches are going to put Neal in the slot some? Maybe they went and looked at the film from two years ago when he played there with some success. I think it would be a great move.

I think Worley is just playing scared. He's not an Alpha male type (IMO) and he doesn't feast on the competition like some would. IMO he'd be better off playing second fiddle for a game and coming in as the backup if needed. I may be dead wrong but I think he almost needs to lose his spot and if needed win it back to free up his mind about the competition. The only reports you hear about a kid really thinking and wanting to be "that guy" is Ferg, that's why I think so many fans are rooting for him. You need some of that moxy to be a bad ass. Worley doesn't strike me as that type at all.

The receivers really need to step up and help these guys out. I kept hearing how Josh Smith was supposed to have the best hands on the team, but he dropped 2-3 easy balls against Oregon. Also, not having Pig at 100% really hurts.

I'm expecting to see more of the lineup where Neal and Lane are both on the field, and they either line up split behind the QB or Neal lines up in the slot. I know I'd like to see Lane get more carries this week.

Not a bad idea at all and honestly that's the kind of creativity I wish we'd see more from the offensive coaches. If I was going to be down on any aspect of the coaching it would be our offensive planning so far. It seems wrote and somewhat rigid. I get they have a system and want to blaze ahead with it but I do think an elite coach would taken more into account that it's a transitional year with recruits not necessarily built for the scheme and they would tailor it more to fit the strengths. I was angry at Chaney for all the end arounds but at least you could see clearly he would do whatever it took to get the ball into his best players hands.

I do think if anyone has a break out performance it will be Lane. He may only get 75yards but against this FL D and our vanilla O that would be an accomplishment.

I think this is probably right. I saw a recent quote from CBJ where he said he wasn't telling Worley to give on all those read options. He's just been deciding that on his own. There were a few times where he had an easy 5-10 yards if he'd kept but instead the run went for no gain. IMO he's playing scared and doesn't want to be the one making plays.

The reason I hope Ferg wins it eventually or has the ability to win it is based on a similarity to that Clausen mentality. I met Casey because I was at UT at that time and graduated in 03. Casey Clausen could have been the most arrogant full of himself d bag I have ever met, but on the football field that is what made him great. He loved the opportunity and being in the spotlight. He didn't back down from it. I see Worley as a guy that backs down from that competition. jmo

My prediction is JW gets the nod with plans for Nate to get series 2 or 3. Unless by some miracle our defense has us up 14-0 going into the 3rd series. I said miracle folks.

If we crack 100+ yards rushing in this game, and assuming it isn't because of some garbage time in a blowout I would consider that a huge victory.
