Unfortunately Stanford can't give us their players though

If only. They are plain hard to block. And there may not he a better skill to have on defense. Though I think they may be challenged against ASU next week.

It's sad that we wish we had Stanford's players.

If this game were being played in 2016/2017, we'd be using Oregon as nothing more than a test to see how well we match up with Bama/Texas A&M in the SEC Championship game.

A Few College Football Things On My Mind... ATM

1. Injuries are plaguing this team and are going to hurt us. Jones, Vereen, Smith, Jenkins, Howard, Young and others. Along with players like Maggitt who aren't 100%

2. Even though we are on probation, I don't think much will come of the Mo Couch and Tyler Bray situation. The NCAA has become a joke.

3. The strength of the SEC has declined. At the same time, the strength of the ACC has increased and will rise even more once teams like Louisville join. Its crazy to see that after the 2nd week, the only SEC East teams that are 2-0 are UT and Mizzou. The east already has 3 OOC losses.

4. When we get a commit that doesn't have a high star rating or a good offer list, people on VN need to take a breathe and wait before posting. Watch tape or find out more info on the kid before you post something negative. Scouting services don't find every great athlete. A lot of times a 2* means they haven't been fully evaluated yet (not always though). People were hating on the Weatherd commit and now look at him.

5. I'm so happy that Kiffin is having problems. Karma is in action.

6. I'm waiting to see what happens with the Vandy scandal when more information is released. I wonder if any former players will snitch on Franklin while on the stand.

7. I don't like the idea of all college football players getting paid. If it is ever aloud, the most wealthy programs will always get the best prospects. I like college football 100 time more than the NFL. With players getting paid, attitudes will change and it will be similar to the NFL.

8. A lot of people have been hating on Worley's accuracy. He is currently 22/32 246 yards with 4 TDs. Surprisingly Mariota's completion percentage is even lower. He is 26/49 433 yards with 3 TDs. Worley's percentage and TD count is higher, but Mariota has thrown for way more yards. After watching the OU/UVA game, I think one major reason for that is because Mariota will throw a screen and his RB will make a play for a huge amount of yards. Biggest difference is Mariota makes plays with his feet. Kid is dangerous

Good post. On #8, if Worley can put it together as far as his accuracy probs to go with our run game I think we keep it tight this week. I think he can do it. He's done pretty well managing the offense and all that. He's just gotta get in a rhythm and we can hang. I'm sure Oregon will stack box and put it on him to beat them. Time to step up.

It's only sad if you don't... look at Stanford's players?

When Oklahoma comes to Knoxville in 2015, they better be ready, I'll say that with confidence.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Vince Fererra is on local radio here in Jackson, TN. He just said that during Gruden's QB camp this offseason, Bray said that before the Florida game last year, he and a lot of the other players thought they were not going to lose again, and were solely thinking about Alabama.

Does anyone know if Bray actually said that? I had never heard it before.

You talking about Vanderburg or Boyd? I heard Boyd was cooperating but dang sure didn't think he had a $50,000 bond bc his charges weren't nearly as serious.

Vandenburg's bail was $350,000 and I believe he was the last to post bond. I think Boyd's was $50,000. Don't know who posted any of the bonds, probably would have to get that info from Court.

Here in Tucson, RichRod utilizes the base 3-3-5 stack defense which counteracts the spread/zone option, which makes sense with the PAC 12 spread offenses.

The primary advantage is that the defense can easily switch from a 4-3 or 3-4 defense to the 335 defense without changing personnel prior to the snap. This would allow teams who run a base 3-4 or 4-3 to shift to a 335 when needed based on the play call or a zone read team such as Oregon.

The drawback is that you need the proper personnel/athletes in order for the 335 to be effective, specifically a NT that can eat up 2 gaps and a Spur/Bandit (Safety/OLB hybrid) that can make plays.

More teams are implementing and using the 335 (Alabama/OSU) in addition to their base defense. They can because they have the athletes required to be effective.

Wouldn't be surprised to see this type of defense more prevalent in the NFL soon.

Great info and excellent post. Always appreciate the X's and O's conversations.

Mariota is this year's Manziel, IMO. Worley, unfortunately, is this year's Matt Simms, IMO.

I imagine that if it wasn't for our OL's stellar pass blocking, that would be MUCH more obvious. Worley's arm isn't awful but it is weak for a starting SEC QB, and inaccurate to boot. Our inexperienced WR aren't helping things, although North should have about 3 TD's at this point.

I'm hoping that Ferguson or Dobbs gets a real shot this year...or Worley just starts playing lights out.

Visiting Auburn Saturday

To reiterate what Vol2002 already posted.

"As I said earlier today here, even in Couch were 100-percent healthy he would not play Saturday. Head coach Butch Jones said earlier today on 104.5 the zone that Tennessee has declared Couch ineligible for Saturday while the investigation into the Yahoo sports story by the University continues."

Could Couch return next week?

"My guess would be that in order to regain his eligibility Couch would have to make restitution of the money taken and the NCAA would likely hand down a multi-game suspension.

But with the NCAA these days who knows. Dez Bryant had dinner with Deion Sanders and lost his entire season. Johnny Football has to sit for a half so who knows."

I honestly could see Kliff Kingsbury going to Texas and coaching after Mack gets canned. He is a " up and coming coach" and real familiar with Texas.

Which game this week has the most NFL draft prospects in the top 300? That's right, Tennessee/Oregon

I would wager if its top 300, then we have more. Our entire O line will probably play in the NFL some day, as will many in our defense. They may not be first rounders, but they'll play and have solid to all pro careers (for the likes of Richardson and maybe even some defensive guys)

No way. Texas will not hire an up and comer. They will fork out the money to get a proven coach. Anyone think Fulmer would be considered?
