I never said you agreed with it, I'm just shocked you believe it. I've never heard of a white coach or ad trying to keep black coaches away from their athletes.

So you're saying that a black coach would/could be limited or stopped from contacting recruits on a HS team that probably has a good amount of black athletes playing on it????

Sorry but this isn't the 50's. You'd be hard pressed to find a HS team that has only white athletes and if you do manage to find some I'd be willing to bet that they aren't good enough to garner much attention in the recruiting world, especially from what is considered one of the premier schools in CFB.

I try my best not to get bated into race discussions because no good ever comes of them, but I agree your posts sound like something from another century. I sincerely doubt there are very many (if any) high schools like this. You will need hard, verifiable data to back an allegation that high school administrations throughout the South wouldn't allow a black head coach to recruit their players. The claim seems patently ridiculous to me.

I never said I believed it either. I was just giving some perspective on when this had been discussed before. People were talking about that as a potential negative for hiring Sumlin when Fulmer was fired (or maybe Kiffin, can't remember which coaching search).

Personally I never thought it would be an issue. Maybe something you would see a little at some backwoods schools, but nothing that would have any effect on recruiting.

You are not in the same circles as the Texas boosters. I'm sure there is some leftover racism in that group. And there is still quite a bit of racism in Austin from what I hear from friends who live there.

That said, there aren't many 6 mil coaches out there who are black yet (as in proven championship winners), but I doubt race will ultimately have anything to do with their hire;resume and awe factor wil decide it.

If UGA somehow collapses, we could see a situation where the UGA, Texas, and USC jobs are open in the offseason.

Money's gonna be flyin all over the place. Gonna be like Oxford on National Signing Day.

Call me crazy, but I could see Spurrier retiring at the end of this season. Probably his last real chance to do something big. Another part of me thinks he'll coach till he croaks, though, so who knows.

Sadly true. I made the decision to play at App State because he was coaching there. I never was able to play for him because he left for Tulane that year. I have always followed his career because he was an awesome coach though. But the game has passed him by and athletes today are not the same as we were. They are so much bigger,faster and stronger than were. They also know the game so much better than we did. Hell, my son has a playbook in Jr Midget ball that is as complex as what I had in High School. :peace2:

I agree with you. I think he retires if their season is mediocre by recent standards.

Spurrier is 68 years old. He is getting to the age where his golf game will be suffering some. If he's going to have any time to enjoy himself he will have to start thinking about retiring soon. If he loses 2 or 3 more games this year it may be his last. That is about all they have on their schedule that might be able to beat them. JMO

Agree it would be crazy, but I doubt UGA folds. I think they are the class of the East. Once that defense settles in, they could be good enough to win the SEC. That offense is really elite IMO.

People read to much into the Clemson game IMO. Clemson is a national title contender. And UGA went head to head with them and lost by only 3 points on the road in a very tough environment.
