I think it was obvious to everyone else that's what he meant. Multiple pages of argument and repeated callbacks to it seem a little excessive.

And if that's what he meant it could have been avoided by clearing it up by answering the follow up questions! Instead he choose the both sides of his mouth angle

@Volquest_Rivals: Butch on second-team struggles in second half: "We won the second half 3-0, the way I look at it."

I love Butch.

I just think windows are smaller depending on defensive style and talent of the secondary

Yeah, but I think that's true for any system. I don't see why it would be worse for us. As long as we've got SEC level skill players and QB, our passing game will be fine.

Fellas I like Butch Jones. His explanations in this press conference isn't BS answers. Its a coach telling it like it is and what his expectations are. Its real football talk. I like this Guy. We haven't had a coach that keeps it real in a long time.

Dude the sky is falling after the AP game. Everybody forgets about Vereen,Sapp and Maggitt. There's your pass rush. On the sidelines.

Sapp played...very much...and well :p

Bama is going to throttle A&M. Saban has been game planning for that matchup since the loss. Blowout coming.

This is very true. Bama was about as worried about Va. Tech as we were AP. Johhnie Football took some big shots against rice while running the ball. If he does that against Bama he won't survive.

I am with you. The question I have that is being discussed does the QB have to have freakish talent for the offense to win championships. So far History suggest that spread offenses have to have just that to be elite week in and week out In the SEC.

You think Bama has the personnel to slow them down? Where are the CBs?

I think the Bama D is every bit as strong as ever, I saw some miscues in the backfield but they were generally quick to get to the ball. Bama is going to hope to keep things in front of them, and they are weak deep down the middle. That is an issue I've noticed with much of the recent Bama teams though.

What was a surprise is just how mediocre their OL is. Bama is not going to score a ton this year. I honestly wouldn't be overly surprised if we keep the game close

I think just like in any system, an elite QB makes things a lot easier and can cover up some issues elsewhere, but a solid QB who can take what the defense gives him in the pass game and get 5-10 rushing yards to keep the defense honest when he's left open in the read option can succeed also.

Bama has recruited at the top of CFB since Saban got there, I don't know their names or how it will happen, but I'll be shocked if Bama doesn't come out 100x more prepared for that game than they looked vs. VT. You really think Saban is going to let JM play the same game he played last year? I wouldn't be surprised if JM ends up in the locker room with an injury before the game is over. Bama is coming after him and his spoiled brat attitude is going to get punched in the mouth all up and down his own field. JMO

I'm not so convinced. It wouldn't surprise me if you're right, but it also wouldn't surprise me if Bama has trouble scoring with TAMU.

No doubt. Perhaps it's all what I am comfortable with but it seems to me with an elite OL and 2 elite RBs, the QB can be average and still win championships in a pro style and not with the spread

With our personal on offense now which style offense would be more successful??? Assuming both are coached well

Spread or pro style??

Maybe. It's too bad they both can't lose the game. I hope Bama loses every game they play I just don't see it happening vs. A&M this year, hope it does though. I hope JM scores 10 TD's and Bama doesn't score any. :crossfingers:

Butch on the injuries.

"Butch says Maggitt and J. Smith will be evaluated this week in practice, didn't rule out the possibility of either playing."

-Rob Lewis

On Marcus Jackson.

"Said was a situation to play some young guys which is why Jackson didn't play per Butch. They will continue to look at it moving forward. Said Jackson had a great fall camp."

Ha! I do too. It's clear he knows work needs to be done, but he also has the right perspective. It's the win/loss that matters most.
