I was at the game and I felt we could have beaten AP 100-0. Butch got to play anyone who he felt might even touch the ball if perhaps there was a giant boulder that fell out of the sky and took out the first and second string.

I get it but it was AP. Florida had Tebow and A&M has Manziel. Those guys don't come around every year.I'm not knocking Worley but I can't imagine a Worley type QB winning championships in this system. So what type of QB would it really take on a consistent basis?

Go ask your boy Nick Saban. :) I'm done with that issue you have.

I figured you would stick to the both sides of your mouth argument.

The second team kids are very important and any poster claiming they aren't because the won't play is very lacking in football knowledge.

The passing game will not progress if Worley keeps throwing the ball 8 yards behind the receiver.

I think his timing will improve. Which is really the thing with Worley right now. He was just late on a bunch of throws. I feel the more in game reps we get the better the passing game will be. We will still depend on the run.

My thought is the style of offense is only elite with a heisman type talent at QB. I fear it cant win BIG in the SEC without that king of QB

You can win 10-11 games with it, but to consistently knock off bama I think you are right about needing a Heisman-esque QB. Its either that or have a killer defense and killer run game.

Seriously can this type of offense win big and consistently in the SEC and the BCS. I know it worked at Cincy but here is my concern.

Laugh out loud. IMO that's the equivelent of asking can these "Big East coaches" recruit in the SEC.

A few things I saw last night. I am sure most have already been mentioned multiple times.

No penalties. Discipline is the difference between good and great coaches. See Richt and Saban. One hasn't it one doesn't.

Attention to detail: CBJ was a mad man in warm ups getting after any minor details not followed. Another example of discipline.

Great energy by maggitt and smith. Showed great leadership out of uniform

Worried about QB accuracy and serious drop off in the secondary.

Who was number 13???

Next week we see what a real game plan will look like with this staff!

my post game thoughts.

A fair way to state a concern about depth??

Looks like a fair assessment to me. Foreman and Swafford are going to play a lot this fall, no other choice. They're both good players and will get better each week but they are true freshman and will make mistakes. That's just part of having to play freshman. Again, every team has these issues, it's just part of it. A pass rush and good coaching will help greatly with those young DB's.

I agree, we'll find out a lot more about our team this weekend vs. WKU. Can't wait!

He probably has the weakest arm of the 4 QBs we have right now.

so are we counting on our 2nd team kids or not????

Individually, yes. UT will need to depend on some of them which is concerning in places.

As a unit, NO.

That is the discussion, the 2nd UNIT didn't look good...AS A GROUP. No one is disputing that, but God help us if we have to depend on them as a group.

On Worley throwing behind the WRs.

"Yes, he threw behind receivers some. I think its about continuing to earn trust with receivers to throw the ball on time and he has to throw the ball more accurate than what he did Saturday against good teams. His receivers I thought made his numbers look better.

It's correctable in my opinion."

really hope you are correct here but I am afraid its more of an arm strength thing. The long throw to north was all arm strength imo and maybe even the crossing throw.

Josh Heupel won with it. It's all about surrounding the QB with weapons.

anybody else think swafford was bigger than expected??

My roster didnt have him listed as 13 so i assumed that wasnt him due to his size.

It was pretty bad. It looked like he through that ball as hard and long as he could and it still came up short.

There's no arguing that his arms strength is below par for the SEC.

Strong didn't turn down the job because its not one of the best jobs in CFB he turned it down because he was scared to fail, IMO.

Lets face it, it's not easy following the mess that has been UT football the last handful of years. It's much easier to stay at his cushy Louisville gig where he's a legend and beat up weak opponents and cruise to a BCS bowl. He wasn't up for the challenge of UT's schedule, he didn't want to compete with the best of the best every week with the possibility of failing when he could stay at Louisville and win 10 games no problem.

Best thing that ever happened to UT FB was Strong saying no. We ended up with the best possible hire, IMO. A proven winner who turned down lesser jobs like Kentucky, Purdue and Colorado waiting for an elite job and he jumped at the UT opportunity. Butch already bleeds orange, is crushing it on the recruiting trail and hasn't made one misstep yet.

I dont give a flip what the current public perception is of Charlie Strong turning down UT. Butch is going to get us back to the top and the public perception then will be just fine.

So, thank you Charlie Strong, from the bottom of my heart for turning down the UT job. You weren't up for the challenge and we got a coach who was, enjoy the Big East and ACC. Should be a real hoot!

If you say so Rich. Anyway I'm not questioning the hire of these coaches. People didn't think certain college schemes would work in the NFL such as Chip Kelly's scheme. So I don't really see the difference in me asking. Now if I had asked some off the wall question I get it. I do that myself all the time but my question I don't think was out there and I'm not alone in that thinking.

Said it before, i'll say it again: If you are just now realizing the roster isn't up to snuff and were expecting something else, that's on you. Making big strides with this recruiting class, though.

I thought the same. If that's correct improving his timing on throws of any kind of distance will only help so much

Lol a Josh Heupel reference. Forgot that guy existed

Heupel had a terrible arm but great timing. People around here are used to Bray's arm. That won't be happening. Worley has to start anticipating passing windows and routes better. And that'll come with experience. He'll learn his WRs.

Is is off base to say heupel wouldn't have been nearly as successful in the SEC today??

That's would be my stance

7 way tie for 1st in fewest points allowed nationally. We were 1of 7 teams to shut someone out in the nation.

We sit at 10th for fewest yards allowed. Now I know we played AP, but we weren't the only team playing cupcake team. I also know these stats won't remain. But we had the worst defense in the nation and school history last year. To start the season on the defensive side of the ball with a shutout this year is a sign of major improvement! I'm 100% sure Sal's greasy butt wouldn't have shut out AP.
This is how to post fellas.

Tim Tebow had a terrible arm. Yes he was big time running threat but his arm isn't great. He still completed a good amount of deep balls due to timing.

Holy ****! I remember how bad it sucked struggling to beat Akron last year.....literally struggling to beat Akron. I'm gonna enjoy this win and suffer the agony of defeat when it's time to do so. I don't understand how some of you suffer the AGONY OF VICTORY the way you do.

Some predicted a freshman to start at QB. Since you're eating crow you are now trying hard to discredit Worley's 11-13 performance. Some were too dumb to see that Sunseri completely destroyed everything last year. He was literally the Dave Clawson of defense. So why not ignore that we just shut someone out....complete shutout. Even the 2nd/3rd string...complete shutout!

A couple have completely torn apart Neal this offseason for no reason at all. Where are they at now? Finding something else to bich about.

I know a few of you enjoy being negative douche bag losers daily....I truly understand that. But for Christ sake, please take your pathetic negative crap elsewhere! At this point and this time, there is absolutely zero place for it here.
