Just because the 2 freshmen don't have an arm like EA doesn't mean they won't be better. You don't need great speed to run a good read option. You need good reads, good fakes, and somewhat decent mobility. Speed is just a bonus. Your other points I completely agree

I agree that you don't have to have great speed to run the read option, but you have to add in durability to the mix as well and I just don't see Worley making it through a full slate of SEC games running the ball much.

Whatever. I watched the game. or at least part of it. I had other things to do today. I'm not taking issue with it, but it is what it is. He turned down UT in favor of another school. Many here believe UT is the best job ever, but he proves otherwise. It sucks hearing someone turn us down, but facts are facts.
Related to the Georgia fan crying on the radio?

What ever happened to all the posters who claimed games were won and lost in the trenches?

We're finally dominate in the trenches, and all of sudden that no longer applies?

I agree. I am one of those posters. People are making mountains out of mole hills on here lately.

It is too early to know where the team and individual players are, except on the O-line and possibly at RB. The O-line is outstanding - one of UT's best ever. Opponents are going to have to load the box to stop the run, which means man or loose zone coverage on the receivers. Worley, who is quite capable of handling the job, can play action until the cows come home at night because he fakes really well and the D's will have to take the run seriously. It is all a matter of getting the timing and trusting the receivers to be in the right places. It has been many years since this was the case at UT.

If the D's are able to stop the run with only 6-7 in the box we will struggle until Worley/receivers get on the same page later in the season. Butch and staff have got this. Breathe.

The announcers are never wrong. Look at the current Rivals recruiting rankings. Strong has Louisville way up at 17th with 25 commits (1620 points) while Butch has only been able to get the Vols to a current 2nd place with only 24 recruits (2311 points). That tells it all! This proves that Butch gets it and that the announcers don't know squat!

Amen brotha. An announcer on television should not make or break someones day. Unless its Bob Kesling doing play by play.

Dude the sky is falling after the AP game. Everybody forgets about Vereen,Sapp and Maggitt. There's your pass rush. On the sidelines.

Drink some more Butch juice...

Not questioning Butch, at least yet. Go back and read my posts.

am not confident in our HC for the future with that kind of mentality

Then what exactly was the above quoted supposed to mean??

You are just getting leagues ahead of yourself. This has nothing to do with drinking orange koolaid or Butch juice, that game was one that we can only draw a couple of conclusions from.
1. We have a tight knit team, full of energy
Ex- Smith and Maggit on the sidelines
2. We have a very disciplined team
Ex- No penalties or turnovers
3. Worley either needs to work on timing with his recievers or he just doesn't know how to put the ball in a good spot.
Ex- Throws to North
4. Butch is trying to conceal his cards for as long as possible to surprise teams when we hit the meat of our schedule.
Ex- We only ran like 10 different plays all game

On Kessling, it should have been Mike Keith all along. Kessling sounds like a middle school broadcaster.
That was the first time I ever heard Keith outside of the Titans game. I always heard fans say he should have had that job. I now see why you guys say that. Calling a play by play is a damn art form.

Yeah his throws to North were off a bit....but that doesn't excuse North for dropping the ball. That's something I've yet to see mentioned. The long bomb should have been a TD because Worley should have placed it in the correct spot. HOWEVER......even with the throw being behind, there's zero reason it shouldn't have been a 40+ yard gain, but dude dropped the ball. Which is absolutely unacceptable. So it goes both ways.

I agree that he should have caught it, but having to reverse your momentum to get to the ball while falling down is a little more difficult of a catch then it looks at first glance

Strong didn't turn down the job because its not one of the best jobs in CFB he turned it down because he was scared to fail, IMO.

Lets face it, it's not easy following the mess that has been UT football the last handful of years. It's much easier to stay at his cushy Louisville gig where he's a legend and beat up weak opponents and cruise to a BCS bowl. He wasn't up for the challenge of UT's schedule, he didn't want to compete with the best of the best every week with the possibility of failing when he could stay at Louisville and win 10 games no problem.

Best thing that ever happened to UT FB was Strong saying no. We ended up with the best possible hire, IMO. A proven winner who turned down lesser jobs like Kentucky, Purdue and Colorado waiting for an elite job and he jumped at the UT opportunity. Butch already bleeds orange, is crushing it on the recruiting trail and hasn't made one misstep yet.

I dont give a damn what the current public perception is of Charlie Strong turning down UT. Butch is going to get us back to the top and the public perception then will be just fine.

So, thank you Charlie Strong, from the bottom of my heart for turning down the UT job. You weren't up for the challenge and we got a coach who was, enjoy the Big East and ACC. Should be a real hoot!

I like this post....kinda got me fired up. Eff Charlie Strong!!!

I will say this.....Louisville payed him an insane amount of money to stay. It's clearly an easier job. So at the end of the day IMO he took an easier job for more money.....which is something every dude in America would be tempted to do.

I've never seen more fans complain about the second unit than I've seen on this board. I don't get it. Everyone knows most of those kids won't play. But folks are whining like we're depending on those kids.

From all I've heard, Fergie has an arm. Also, how does anyone here know anything about what Fergie and Dobbs can do? They've been on campus for less than 3 months.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, but personally, I'm excited about the QB position in the future. Plus, the way we're recruiting RBs, we're not going to have to rely on a QB's arm the same way we did in the Dooley era. Tack on the fact that our defense is about to get a major upgrade in talent and you can count me very excited about the future.

(This post is not directed at you Wu-Tang, just trying to add to the overall QB discussion)

I agree. And it wasn't even 2nd unit most of the time in the 2nd half, it was 3rd and 4th units. Like you said, guys that won't be playing. But some on here always need something to complain about. It's going to get much much worse as the season moves on.

If you dont think that we will be depending on the second unit through the meat grinder of the SEC schedule we have you dont know much about football.

Spot on for your last sentence. It's been very clear for a long time that we have depth concerns this year. Thus, I've been saying 6-6 is a good year. Some people must just be waking up to that reality.

I was dissappointed we didn't score more in the second half. But all I took from that in the end was just to hope we don't have too many major injuries early in the season. I think those struggles were as much because of inexperience as they were talent. Those guys will improve as the year goes on.

So we went straight from the first unit to the third and fourth unit for most of the second half?

I am wondering whether anyone else noticed the second team defense was in the ENTIRE 2nd half and did not allow a score?

Ever heard of fatigue or injuries????

Good grief your football credibility is in serious question the past days.

So we're going to take the whole 1st string out or are we going to play them in spots? You guys don't understand sub patterns or something. Everyone knows you slip them in with a bunch of other starters and basically hide them. But I guess you'll have a dumb answer for that.

I don't think there's any questioning that we have depth issues. I think what some are pointing out is that we won't have our second/third string in collectively at one time.

An injury would require a second string guy individually playing, wouldn't be equal to the entire second team squad playing. And while that could still negetively impact things, it wouldn't be as drastic as some are insinuating. Just my take on things.
