Getting real tired hearing how C. Strong turned down the UT job. True or not, it still paints UT in a negative light.

Hey, Charlie Strong turned down the UT job. That negatively gives us the top five recruiting class in the country right now. #you're so observant.

Sumlin did have the most talented player in the country last year.

A few other very highly drafted kids as well.

I have never understood people claiming a coach was only a great recruiter when he recruited and developed ALL of his team but ignoring that sumlin inherited a hell of a talented team as well.

Alabama got Dominated whipped and b
Embarrassed up front. They are not unbeatable.

And Va Tech's 3rd string RB made it look easy and that was without a competent QB.

Logan Thomas is the worst D1 QB I've seen since Reggie Ball

Bama is primed for a 2-3 loss season (which is still a good yr)

And for some unbeknownst reason ESPN has been determined to hype him

:) man Sumlin developed his team in a new system faster than Saban. I guess you'll come up with some excuse for that too. Just like Saban had more talent but was OUT COACHED by Sumlin last year and Utah his second year(was embarrassed after his 30 day prep period).

Sumlin had the benefit of having a ton of young talent already on hand when he took over. The cupboard was full when he arrived at A&M.

I don't often agree with Tux, but he is right on this one. Sherman could recruit, which is why they were always ranked high in the preseason (in Sherman's last year they were either just inside the top 10 or #12 depending on who you looked at).

Not sure why everybody is so low on Bama after their performance and still high on A&M after their performance. I understand the suspensions played a factor, but giving up 30+ to Rice has to be a little worrisome. Plus, Johnny continued to show immaturity that will undoubtedly catch up with him on the field.

Most people have no idea where UT is in terms of recruiting. I would almost guarantee you they don't either. I'm glad things worked out the way they have so far. It still doesn't change the perception that UT is down.

I actually don't think Saban is the best coach in CFB. Best recruiter is probably more like it.

On the (current and recent past) college level, Jim Harbaugh, David Shaw, and Chris Peterson are all probably better Xs and Os guy.

Saban is absolutely top 10 though. And that combined with an insane level of talent means they're the best team in the country.

Unfortunately, in the NCAA, the coach who recruits the best, is the best. However I agree with you...to a point.

In sheer terms of X's and O's, Saban is at or near the top, but he's not the outside of the top 3, period--history proves it.

I'll give you Shaw and Peterson; given comparable talent, a month to prepare, and a neutral field...well, that'd be one hell of a game to watch, but it's a coin flip on which one would win. They're all excellent coaches, period, but at the end of the day, Saban has won more big games, in the toughest conference, with more consistency, than either of the two combined.

Until someone knocks him off his pedestal (I mean, how else are you going to see all 4'11" of him?? :) ), Saban is the best HC in college football, regardless of the criteria.

...and those words are like acid, out of my mouth.

Funny how people fail to realize that was Sumlin's first year and he was working with a redshirt Freshman QB. Also they were moving to a true spread offense.

Bama not being able to run the ball will spell doom if it's not fixed. McCarron isn't that type of QB. He hasn't even been groomed to take over a game.

Not a perception, it's a fact...but we're on the rise, at least in terms of recruiting.

Agreed. My perception is that A&M has way more problems than Bama right now. I now fully expect a Bama victory in two weeks.

That's not a perception its reality. Doesn't mean that someone saying Strong turning down the job somehow makes things worse. Believe it or not no one is thinking about UT but us fans. Who sits around taking issue with what an announcer says about Strong and UT? They need to get over it and watch the game.

Why would you say that? People are talking about Johnny Football but they didn't miss a beat with him in. He's a better QB this year too.

Defense looked bad and I've got to imagine Manziel is a clubhouse cancer. I wouldn't be surprised by an epic collapse by them this year. We'll see.

Be interesting to see how A&M defense does against Bama's offense.

A&M struggled against the run yesterday.
Bama struggled to run.

Sorry, haven't been able to get on. I see y'all misunderstood me.

I'm under the impression that, to run the ball, UT will primarily use the read option. Not going under center, no power I, any of that. Obviously, I may be wrong, but that's what it appears to me seeing practice highlights and such.

I don't think that works well in the SEC. Feel free to disagree, but Worley is no threat to run the ball consistently, like Boyd can, even if they do sell out for Neal/Lane.

They're not basing they're run game on the read option. They knew AP was a cakewalk and could beat them with simple plays. They ran the zone read because it'll work against AP and they didn't have to break out their playbook. Everyone knows Worley isn't enough of a dual threat to run the zone read, even WKU, but it worked against an undermanned AP team when ran sparingly. Let WKU have that film instead of revealing too much of our gameplan.

Edit: Alot of those "options" were probably designed handoffs anyway.

It may have been mentioned but one thing I noticed last night was that The DL was WAY more active with their hands when engaging the O-Linemen. At the snap it looked like Bruce Lee movies. Then on the butch jones show this morning they feature Stripling and it is clear that he is determined to get them active with hands and proper technique. The DL just seemed more active. I know it was Austin Peay but I was pleased by what I saw from the DL.

I bet his teammates love him. They immediately started to play better on both sides when he was put in.

Heard on the radio they have some sort of leadership council voted on by the team, and he was not voted on it. Maybe they like him, but they don't respect him as a leader.
