Thanks. That's good news from a depth standpoint. Everything seems to point toward the kid being a gamer. Plays above his talent it seems
Yeah, the problem is our staff is running nickels specifically at nickel I think. Almost like another position.

Alternatively I could see McNeil running at nickel and Moore taking SS on some plays. Moore isn't fast enough for the nickel IMO

Nor is McNeil. I'd rather see Coleman moved inside some and allowing Williams paired with Sutton on the outside.

Could someone explain the bigger differences in CB and playing the nickel??

I assumed they were very similar other than the nickel is inside covering more of the slot guys.

Is williams going be good enought to hold off foreman?

I hope no one thinks that question is bashing our coaching staff! You never know with some guys on here

Interesting. Williams is going to see some playing time this year, I think. Martinez said Williams is the fastest defensive back when asked the other day. Didn't bat an eye when he said it, so it must not even be close. I find him to be one of the more intriguing defensive guys on the team. Anxious to see how he develops.

Outside corners have a harder job. One they are mostly covering big physical WRs, while the nickels are covering smaller guys like Pig/Devrin/etc. I'm no coach, but the responsibilities on nickels are much simpler. IMO, outside corners need to be more physical and all-around players, while nickels need to be smart and like glue on whoever they are covering (which means they need to be fast, not faster than outside guys, just fast).

Just my general thoughts.

He would certainly be a pleasant surprise. Looks like we need him to be just that

CB must be more physical than the nickel that is covering the smaller slot guys is what I get from your post

Ferguson and Dobbs have both gotten some work with the ones lately. Both appear to definitely be pushing Peterman. I would not say that either of the frosh is the No. 2 QB right now but I would guess that day is coming at some point.

Yeah I had Bynum originally and then changed it to Fugate. I realized I hadn't heard anything about him in a while and just assumed he was quietly going about his bizz Austin Johnson style.

I seem to recall someone quoting Hubbs a little while ago as saying basically Channing's a great guy, but football has never been his priority since being on campus. I took that to mean he was getting passed up quickly on the depth charts and wasn't producing very much.

“He’s already a good player, and he wants to be a great player, and he’s gonna be a great player,” Vols senior center James Stone said when we asked him about Wiesman. “I’m telling you, he’s gonna be great.”

He gon' be good.

thanks..... that makes the Bruin text Very Interesting :eek:hmy:

Certainly doesn't back up that opinion does it. I saw where scout had an interesting tweet about a QB taking more command today. Perhaps that was not peterman and one of the youngsters

Interested to hear what that scout article said

I really don't have an opinion as to who should start, or which looks best at practice (I haven't been to practice) but does seem like conflicting reports.

I have a fear of that old saying "when you have two qb's it's because you don't have one" ... makes me wonder if no one is really stepping up?

Orta is currently playing at the nickel position right now. Rucker over on 247 thinks he should be tried at CB. He's not high on the depth chart right now at nickel or safety.

If neither of the older guys can do it I agree with you that's a problem. They aren't going to have to win games just manage them with our running game IMO. If neither JW nor NP can so that its very scary.
