They did recruit Peterman at Cincy and im sure they did their homework on Fergy before letting him keep his scholly and certainly did on Dobbs

hopefully they see what they need to soon so the offense can start to get comfortable with the guy thats going to be at the helm come gametime

They're creating competition. It will all be sorted out soon. It's practice 10, still plenty of time.

So a coach hasn't named a starter and a poster states an opinion of someone close to the program of who should start it is criticizing the coaches???

Where do some of you fools come up with this stuff?

The text came from someone that has attended every practice this camp and his opinion is worth listening to(most would agree with that).

I really have no opinion on who should be the starter. I thought it was a for gone conclusion that JW was the guy. That's why I was shocked

I am not trying to challenge you Bruin, I am trying to understand.

When I quoted you, you had just quoted someone who said they wanted Peterman and you say you agreed 100% ...Maybe you were referring to something else in his statement, but I took it to mean you wanted Peterman as well..... and that is why you saw the text as "a curve ball" ????

I don't have a source that I can name for this info but I'm hearing the coaches will know who the starting QB will be by August 29th. :)

Oh trust me....This Bruin is questioning the coaches. He is getting quite good at questioning them. It always starts with his "sources".

I don't know your beef with Bruin...I will agree he is pretty annoying at times...not sure if he is a troll or just a Vol fan who likes to argue. It can get tiresome but I doubt anyone is taking what he is saying as fact. It is just more conjecture for the board.

I agree Ron....way to early to panic...this coaching staff hasn't done anything to make us second guess their ability to evaluate talent

I didn't take Bruin's post as bashing or questioning the coaches...I took it as a bit of information that may or may not be true that we can all debate incessantly even though none of us have a shred of the necessary facts to even debate the topic....

that's VN 101

I agree there is still time - it's just one of the positions that I don't personally like to see the competitions last too long - I prefer a guy win it and then start to get everyone comfortable with him as the leader of the offense

that being said I trust the guy with his hand on the levers so I am sure he will make the right call

I know the QB talk kind of took over but loved seeing that on JRM - I thought he would be one that could get moved to LB - that position is going to be much much more athletic over the next couple of years than it has been

putting a lot of speed into that position

Exactly. I was shocked by the text

My fault. I fell into the 100% VN curse. I was agreeing with the part of the post saying that according to all accounts peterman wasn't a real factor and that's why I was shocked. I don't care who starts and 100% trust CBJ on who he decides whenever he feels its appropriate to make that choice

Thanks ...that clears it up....

I do agree that Peterman would be great in this system, if what i saw in HS film was a true picture ///

Interested text if it did not come from someone who was in the Peterman camp before he saw him....:good!::good!:

I personally don't care who starts either...I have a feeling we may see some games where two guys play to bring different dynamics to the position because with Worley we do not really have a read option facet to the offense.

The Jones injury is the bigger news of the day to me...from a depth perspective that hurts. Even if he was running 3rd string that is one less athletic guy we have at corner

It will be interesting to see if any media guys come out with anything positive on peterman in the next few days.

"The Vols worked special, late-game situations in which the offense inherited position with 10 seconds and a timeout, needing to get into field goal range. Though the offense faltered initially, with a 51-yard field goal that missed on Michael Palardy's first kick of the day, the group rebounded later. Both Palardy and redshirt freshman George Bullock hit field goals beyond 50 yards in simulated late-game, high-pressure situations."

"Ryan Jenkins and Pig Howard had nice catches in the end zone for touchdowns during situational work, while both Kenny Bynum --- off a Foreman PBU --- and Tino Thomas notched interceptions."

Gettin a sneaky feeling that Ryan Jenkins is gonna get a lot of PT

Moving Vincent Dallas speaks more to the CB situation than the WR situation IMO. We need bodies at CB...we have enough bodies at WR/TE it seems

Agreed but it also in turn makes guys like Jenkins pushed into earlier action

true.
Because the slot seems like such a specialized position in this offense then I anticipate North, Devrin, and Jenkins to get snaps...I will be curious to see if Jenkins beats out Young who the coaches seemed pleased with in the Spring.

I look for JRM to get some PT at LB this year too. Guy is a ball player.

It speaks to both in my opinion. Dallas is one of the only receivers with experience, and yet he is still not able to solidify a role on the offense. The young ones must be coming along well for Coach Jones to have the confidence to make that kind of move.

Although you're right. Corner is a bare cupboard these days.

I wish VD would have been at DB since he was a freshman. I never thought he was capable of being an SEC caliber receiver. But he's athletic enough to give us good depth at corner. Gotta find some nasty though.

Yeah I agree. I think he's probably a better football player than Brent Brewer is right now. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds a way into the starting lineup at some point this year.
