I love big men on the dline but 6 in rotation and 8 in development means 14 of 82 schollies on 2 starters. So that is 7 schollies per dt starter. So every other starting spot would have 3.4 schollies per starter

Basically this is easy to say but w 85 limit completely unrealistic

Btw I counted 3 specialist schollies to get to 82#

You want 4 u can count on that are active in rotation. 2 u can play in a pinch. 2 in development. W 85 limit tough to get more than that w/o really hurting other positions. Even at 8 u would have more schollies at dt than avg position

Ok, I can buy that, solid analysis, thanks.

I know some people were shocked when LaDarrell McNeill was placed ahead of Byron on the depth chart (as was I).

However from watching VQ's videos, they are really hyping up McNeill. He had a really good spring and summer. He could be there to stay.

I think he will flourish this year in the 4-3.

Mcneil is a more physical player. Nothing against Moore, but I would rather have someone who will light up wr's and rb's when given the chance.

I really like LM. He and Randolph have potential to be excellent back there. Bmoore can backup either spot, maybe play some nickel, maybe pkay some cb so he will still get plenty of snaps

Think we will be able to turn what was a real weakness on the team last year into one of our strongest positions and hopefully that will help us not give up so many big plays

IIRC, McNeill was our highest rated recruit from the 2012 cycle. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise he's doing so well.

Hope they find a good role for B. Moore. He made mistakes last year, but I thought he was solid overall and made some important plays for us. His pick-6 at Georgia was a lot of fun.

I believe we will have quite a few 3 safety sets. Especially with our issues at LB

I would rather have 14 DTs than 203 WRs.

3 solid DTs in this class is a must.

Over exaggeration IMO. Jj

3 would put us right at 8 funny enough. Carr obrien saulsberry 3 newbies. 1 de from last yr slide over. Then Clark or Carson one may stay in program

Coach wants 40 to 60K at the open practice

Tennessee Tuff Period = physical one on ones everyday. OL vs DL etc..

conditioning will be done during the course of practice. no standing around

PRS Summer= Personal Record Summer. players have blown it out of the water. 6 players squated over 600 pounds. last yr there was one

over 1300 community hours. players are doing everyhing he has asked them to do

great secondary play stems up front with defensive front

WR will be thrown in the fire right away. up tempo offense..must think fast.

must take care of your body...the cold tub must be your friend

passed out over 300 bricks. very symbolic of our foundation and each individual within the program.

Frank is fired up. they love him

quotes from @Vol_Football

JONES: Everyone is very excited because It's Football Time In Tennessee! We're looking forward to it. Our players have done so much.

JONES: We're looking for a high level of consistency at the QB position day in and day out. I like the mindset of our players right now

JONES: It's the job of your coaches to stimulate your players. We'll change the times of practice up and not become routine oriented.

JONES: We're developing our style of play right now. And that's really following our plan to win. We're creating our football ID every day.

JONES on WUZ1045: Every day we will have a competitive period. We call that our TennesseeTough period.

JONES: If we practice with the habits we expect at Tennessee, then we shouldn't be doing conditioning after practice.

JONES: I'm very encouraged by our conditioning. We called this summer a PRS. A personal record summer. Everybody had to improve.

JONES: Then the 1300 community hours. These players have done everything we've asked. Now it's working towards championships and bowl games.

JONES: We need a dominating presence up-front. Our D-front really has to step up in order for us to play winning football.

JONES: The young guys will be thrown into the fire right away. They'll get plenty of reps and the cold tub becomes your best friend in camp.

JONES: I've passed out about 300+ bricks between the Vol_Football family. Those bricks are symbolic of the foundation we're setting here.

People better start making plans to be at Neyland on August 17th

Thanks for posting this. Wish I could be there - too far away for me.

I like the Tennessee tough period - I think that's important.

In other news, I've noticed recently where Pinkel at Mizzou has taken the "toughness" elements out of his practice this fall, to avoid injuries. Bad move IMO. Kiffin did a similar thing last year at USC and later blamed it for their poor defensive showing. I think I've read similar things about other programs, about how that has hurt their performance (UGA a few years ago?).

Anyway - this feeds my view that Mizzou is going to be one of the SEC teams that really crashes and burns this year. (My other pick is Miss State).

Pinkel bends on practice routine : Sports

Didn't the UF qb get injured last year by Co tact during practice?
