The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

I agree. Harvick is better than Newman. I understand that. I also understand that Patrick brings millions to SHR. She'll hinder the overall on track performance of the organization in the long run though.

It's Hendrick equipment anyway. Also I wouldn't be suprised for SHR to eventually go to 4 cars

Lack of passing, poor attendance raises concerns with Brickyard 400 at Indy - NASCAR - Sporting News

Wow, Tony sounds like an f1 fan from a few years back. Stating that a mess of passes isn't important for an exciting race.

I found last week an interesting contrast. You had the trucks going back to the sort of stuff that started NASCAR, while the Winston Cup cars went to the stuff that took them away from their roots.

The truck series has definitely tried to do something "different" by going back to the dirt track. I'm all for it.

I loved it too. I think the lower series should be where you test out stuff. Try something wacky. If it turns out to be boring then so what, you still probably got more people to watch.

I gotta say, I actually enjoyed the brickyard qualifying more than the race. I just love that speedway though. The race itself was a so-so.

Dirt racing is a great concept for NASCAR. Too bad it's not feasible to adapt the cars corectly to make for an exciting race.

It's also a shame that there isn't a dirt track that can support a Cup race, and no owner will put forth the money without a long term deal.

Attendance was down at the 500 this year too, but the 400 is bordering on pathetic. In fact, they took down some bleachers this year. I haven't been since 2006 when we quit renewing our tikets. And the Super Weekend didn't even peak my curiosity. I'd rather drop 100 bones on a random weekend to play the golf course.

I might consider a deal that gets me a Th, F, Sat. USAC, Truck, Busch ticket at IRP (respespctively) and a front stretch for Cup Sunday. Maybe.

I have to agree with Tony. Not sure what the big deal is about how Danica is running. Some weeks its good some weeks its bad. I think she will do better over the next several weeks as they start going back to tracks they were at earlier in the season. Take Ricky Stenhouse he is a back-to-back Nationwide Champion yet he isn't doing much better and he stepped into a winning/championship contending car.

The last rookie to win a race was Joey Logano in 2009.

Not exactly a packed house.

What do you expect with the economy. I wonder what the ticket prices for the Indy race are?

Up until the year before last we had been going to Talladega evry spring since around '96 or '97 but it got to where we just couldn't justify paying around $100.00+ for three seats. (Tower Seats)

Throw in gas prices there and back.

The economy is a cop out and only covers up the problem.

1 top 10 is not some weeks, that's ONE. Her avergage finishing position is 25.85

I don't think anyone is really expecting her to win a race this year but with the equipment she drives and the teammates she has she should be having better runs and better finishes. She should be at least leading a few laps here and there in more than one or two races and it's just not happening.

Not really. She's right where everybody expected her to be. And where she will stay.

She is where most of us that don't drink the Danica koolaid thought she would be. If you are an actual Danica fan (not sure how many are real fans) they have to be disappointed some.

Don't get me wrong... I think she is nice to look at but I don't think she deserves the ride she has. Maybe a lower level ride but not at SHR. I think she will hold them back.

I wonder how long the money making side of things will keep her around, once the novelty wears off and instead of a woman she's seen simply as a mediocre stock car racer

Well, it's been 10+ years, and the novelty of Dale Jr. doesn't seem to be fading significantly.

Jr. may not live up to everyone's expections but at least he was won some races here and there. Sometimes few and far between but he still has won some races. He also leads races from time to time.

Her novelty was starting to wear thin in Indy before she announced she was moving to Nascar. I think it will depend on how long the fans in general can put up with her.

Pocono is up next.
Wake me up when it's over so I can change the channel prior to the VL interview of either Jimmie or Denny.

2 more yrs tops. It wouldn't surprise me to see her out of the 10 car by the end of next season if she can't start running in the mid to upper teens.

That's because she keeps running into him.

She only has three DNF's and one of those was in the big one at Talladega.

She's been driving stock cars for a year and half! If she hasn't started getting top 15-20 finishes by this time next year then we can talk but I think its to soon to say she isn't capable. She did win a open wheel race and was close to winning others including the Indy 500.

I'm not a rah rah Danica fan although I do pull for Stewart-Haas and MW Racing (or anyone but Jimmy!) but I just think that saying she is a bust this early is ridiculous.

Will people be saying the same things in the next 3-5 years about Johanna Long, Kensie Ruston, Mackena Bell or someone else (Travis Pastrana) that there only getting rides where it be in Cup, Nationwide or Trucks because of looks &/or bringing in sponsor money from outside endorsements!

she is not a very good driver, period. Hinchcliffe has won multiple races in a car that she couldnt consistantly put in the top 20. To say she is a good driver is total BS, she couldnt even outrun the NNS regulars that had half the equipment she had.
