Vols #1 on Rivals

"There are those who said this day would never come, what are they to say now?"

:yahoo:

umm let me see a kid could commit early and then decide to take visits later on

a kid could commit under certain conditions then doesnt handle his buisiness so his offer is off the table

:eek:lol: man theres too many reasons to name but you think its all on the coach i bet that tune changes once butch has a couple kids jump ship it happens at every program

Yep

gonna be interesting how it goes if you guys go 6-6 or even worse it seems like hurd and kelly are gonna be good at holding the class together tho thats important imo

but 6 wins does get you to a bowl game these days doesnt it? lol i could see 7 or 8 wins tho it but 5 seems possible too vandy isnt gonna be easy

K....

For those of you who are citing average star ratings, Rivals has changed their methodology slightly. “Unlike the old formula, the new formula uses a prospect's Rivals Rating (RR), not the prospect's star rating, as the key factor in the formula to compute the point totals

For what it is worth, however, 5-star athlete = ranking of 6.1.
4-star athlete = ranking from 5.8-6.0
3-star athlete = ranking from 5.5-5.7
2-star athlete = ranking, presumably, 5.2-5.4.

For a complete breakdown on Rivals’ ranking methodology and the tiered-bonus point system assigned to top-250 prospects, see Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Rivals.com Football Team Recruiting Rankings Formula. To illustrate this process, however, let us take, as examples, Jalen Hurd and Todd Kelly, who currently have 6.0 rankings. They automatically receive 135 base points for that ranking. As the 19th-ranked prospect nationally, Hurd would receive an additional 61 points for a total of 196. Kelly is 61st, so that gives him an additional 40 points, for a total of 175.

We presently have no commitments with a 5.9 ranking, but Daniel Helm, D’Andre Payne and Vic Wharton all have a 5.8 ranking, so they receive a base of 105 points. Helm and Payne are ranked 175th and 206th, respectively, so they receive bonuses of 18 and 11 points, respectively, which raise their final totals to 123 and 116 points. All of this is, of course, subject to significant change as updates are made to both individual and top 250 rankings, but it gives you some idea of precisely where these numerical values come from which go into final team rankings.

As was previously the case, only the 20 highest ranked signees count toward the overall class rank. It is worth noting, however, that “JUCO and Prep School national rankings do not have bonuses. Only those prospects’ RR rating will be considered in the point calculation.” The significance of this statement is that, even if you should sign the nation’s no. 1-ranked JUCO prospect, his point total will be based solely upon his Rivals Ranking, which, as previously noted, ranges from 5.2-6.1. Within Rivals’ methodology, JUCO players simply are not eligible for bonus points.

To me, the new system seems like a more precise methodology and certainly will reward programs who sign a disproportionately high number of Top 250 or even Top 100 prospects.

I hate to bring him up but does it not make anyone wonder what the heck Dools was doing in his three year tenure? The fact that CBJ is able to come in and in just a few months give us the #1 class yet Dooley couldn't get a top ten class. I'm blown away. I wonder what Dooley thinks of this right now. It's got to eat at him.

I am definitely stoked about being number 1 on Rivals and number 2 on 247...But I am not holding my breath. Until now and NSD in 2014, a lot can happen. And I only say this because I have gotten my hopes up before and I've been let down a lot lately.

Even if we don't finish number 1...we could finish with a top 10 recruiting class and I would be stoked.

You seriously overestimate Derek Dooley's give a damn.

CBJ came in as a proven winner. DD was a proven loser. I think it makes a lot of sense. Better days ahead.

Top 10 is where I want us to be. ESPN cameras set up throughout the day doing interviews and live updates around the Vols "War Room" on NSD will be great pub. All the positives from that just helps to build a better class in 2015.

I just don't know about Butch Jones. Might be a decent coach. Yeah, he's done well, but can recruit at the highest level?

Heh, heh!

right now i think top 6 or 7 would be my guess UT/butch will most likely get alot of love for it too like ole miss did

Come on man. He was under Saban for how long in college and the NFL. His father won a national championship and coached for over 30 years. He had all the tools to be a success. Think about that for a minute. How do you blow all that knowledge to end up a loser. He had all the knowledge to be a success at his disposal. That amazes me that he didn't utilize anything. Just saying.

Anyone still upset that Charlie Strong isn't our head coach?

Louisville is #9 right now coming off a Conference championship and a BCS bowl win over the #3 ranked Gators. We've just had 3 straight losing seasons...

Louisville is still Louisville. Tennessee should always be a bigger draw no matter who is the head coach. I said all along I would take CBJ for 2.5-3 million before I would over pay CS for 4 million plus.

Yeah. Cause ole miss and Tennessee are similar. Both usually a cellar dweller, never had success, and both wish they could compete at an elite level. Hell, maybe one day one of those teams could win it all???? ****, a few good decades, and maybe one of those teams could be top 10 in all time wins. Give me a break cupcake. Your posts disgust me.

If Jones can coach at anywhere near the level he recruits, our football program is in good hands.

I don't think that's how he meant it.

As excited and proud as I am of CBJ, it is easier to recruit when you haven't coached a game. It also helps to have Jalen Hurd, TKJr, and Vic recruiting the way they are and representing us the way they are. The core is very strong with this class and that will help us stay top ten for sure, maybe even top five.
