This x 1000. Attitude and effort are great ways to create luck too.

Always find it funny when the luck thing comes out in a loss or a failure in any walk of life. Usually luck only factors into a small percentage of events or plays or whatever, it's the other situations that separate winners from losers where effort, attitude, and preparation are the key factors.

The blueprint Dooley left Butch was titled " What not to do as University of Tennessee Head Coach"

Butch is selling the hell out of this place, like Dooley should have done and to an extent, Kiffin also. I know people like Dooley, with that loser mentality that just oozes from them. It's depressing, honestly.

What Butch is doing is simple. He's not trying to pimp UT into Southern Cal east or reminding everyone he fetched coffee for Saban.He is selling the fact that even in its darkest days, UT is still powerhouse in the best conference in America. Best facilities, huge stadium, beautiful town, tradition, football factory and a fanbase that is second to none. He has an unlimited arsenal here and he's using everything at his disposal.

It is why I always hated the talk of "Dooley is at least recruiting well." Dude sucked in every possible way.

I try not to pile on Dooley, but the bold is what I thought about when I read the comment on Dooley's blueprint.

Butch is doing almost everything different from Dooley and it seems to be working.

Yes! Exactly how I feel! Everyday bUTch gives me another reason to hate myself because of how much I supported Dooley. He's really shown me just how terrible Dooley really was. And now I feel like I should've seen it right away!

Coaches who walk into a University like ours, and aren't preaching playing, practicing, and working like a champion just don't "get it." And Dooley never got it. He was waiting for the kids to show him that they could do it, they could get over the hump. When all along he's supposed be the one to show the kids that there is no hump to get over. You go out there and work you're a** off, in every phase of the game, and it equals wins and championships. You act like a champion in everything you do, and you'll develop an attitude of winning, and toughness. Something Dooley never did! He had all the excuses in the world though.

I never felt comfortable with Dooley...even when I was defending him and the seemingly monumental task ahead of him to rebuild the program, I was always hesitant to say he would get it done.

Now, I'm hesitant for a MUCH different reason...mostly because my gut is telling me CBJ has the makings of something special...and it scares the hell out of me because of our recent history of taking one step forward and three steps back.

CBJ has done a masterful job at just about everything off the field so far. I'm not ready to proclaim he's the one to turn things around though, I want to see this team play Oregon first.

I'm not looking for a win (well, I am) but I'm looking for a team that gives them all they can handle...that's it, for now.

i could not disagree more - luck is the exact opposite of that

Les miles vs ole miss in 2009 and us in 2010 had nothing to do with preparation - it was the exact opposite - he was not prepared at all and still got away with it (at least against us, not so lucky vs ole miss)

so a better definition of luck would be coming in less prepared, less knowledgeable, not executing and winning anyway - that would better define Les Miles

heck of a motivator and he develops players but noone is less prepared on game day without it costing them

Tidbits from Practice 11.

In terms of Thursday's on-field action, defensive backs coach Willie Martinez was as animated as ever and barking instructions relentlessly during the Vols' one-on-one receiver-versus-defensive back drills. Martinez particularly challenged junior college signee Riyahd Jones to step up and be a competitor.

Martinez and defensive coordinator John Jancek were very vocal and animated in an individual period where the defensive backs were working on fighting off a cut block and implored to go make a play. Jancek got worked up enough to sling his hat across the field.

Jason Croom continued to emerge at wideout, but he was one of the few. The Vols' struggles there have been obvious and consistent; Alton 'Pig' Howard, Devrin Young and Drae Bowles all had drops.

There were a number of high school coaches present as the Vols prepare for their first coaching clinic under Jones. Peyton Manning is the featured speaker this weekend.

Yes, I think they are taking another tight end. I think they are definitely interested in Cole, but there are guys on their board ahead of him.

Milan Richard will be here this weekend. They like the Helm kid.

This has to be a huge distraction for Marlin and I would guess he is underperforming this spring because of it.

I hope his mothers health improves soon, not just for football reasons

IMO, we have way too many hamstring issues. I am wondering if it may have to do with some of the supplements used by our players, i.e, creatine. If you do not take creatine properly and do not hydrate yourself properly, these type of injuries will most definitely occur.
