UGA loses their entire defense. If we can stop them at all I think we have a good shot at them. Especially at home. That team is consistently overrated.

Yea but they have really talented players ready to step in on D and don't forget that they bring back one of the best offenses in the country.

If the line came out today I bet UGA would be favored by 12 or so points.

We have some really talented players ready to step in on offense but all I see here is people downplaying our ability. We didn't lose nearly as much as UGA.

Also, I don't believe in Grantham. That D massively underachieved last season.

this is a VERY good read...what I like most is the personal approach Jones seems to take with the players...open door to his office for them to stop in for a chat...walking through the locker room after practice to just make sure everyone is OK on a personal level...to me, if you are going to work with teens and early 20s young men this seems like an obvious way to function...but apparently other guys prefer to keep their distance. To each his own, but I certainly like that Butch is taking somewhat of a father role with these young men.

This is something that a UT coach hasn't done in a very long time. It is my favorite thing Jones does. It is a little thing, but makes a huge difference.

I think the main thing that worries people with our schedule is that we have @Oregon, @UF, UGA, SC and @ Bama all in our first 8 games with only 3 easy wins mixed in.

How healthy will we be, how mentally strong will we be if we are 3-5 when we get to the games that are actually the make or break games for our season? @Mizz, Aub, Vandy??

I do get that and dont mean to completely discount it but that is why you have a good coach - to make sure that the team's head is right and they come ready and prepared for each game - we are not trotting freshman out there at half the positions any more so even if they go 3-5 i think a good coach gets them ready for those final games

7 wins is losing to every good team we play - and GA and USCjr based on last year's results I think are much closer to our talent level than the national media and some on this board believe

oregon also loses a lot on D and their HC and it is early in the season so i think with a good coach we could pick off 1 of those 3

now if we do that we may drop 1 to a team we shouldnt but 7 wins just isnt that tough to get to

notice everything being predicated on "if we have a good coach"

i think we finally have a good coach

LBJ is a baby and Bosh isn't good. I'd like to meet D-Wade though.

Lol at LBJ last night trying to bulldoze Boozer then crying about it... He does have a good point though

Anyhow, if LBJ showed up while recruits were there it would certainly generated Buzz

You sound a bit bitter. Lebron is just passionate about the game, sometimes overly so, and Bosh is good but inconsistent offensively.

Also if you don't think that recruits wouldn't be ecstatic to meet some of the most talented players in professional basketball (namely Wade and James) then you're just fooling yourself.

True that. I was speaking how I would personally feel though. For some reason everyone loves LBJ even though he's probably the biggest baby in NBA history.

On the flagrant 1 he got last night the replay showed Boozer saying "You can't push me like that Bron Bron" and smirking. I laughed pretty hard... I would call him Bron Bron if I played against him

I'll give you that shoulder into Boozer as it's the perfect example of how he can get over-emotional, something Jordan would do by making a play instead of a scene. James doesn't cry any more than any other NBA player, he just happens to be all the media can ooze over so that when one thing happens it is blown out of proportion.

The reason I think everyone loves him is because he's got more athletic ability in his pinky finger than most people do in their entire body. Also had he not had the whole "Decision" episode he wouldn't be looked at in such a negative light, because he's honestly a pretty good guy.

I would not hang my hat on last years results against a team for this upcoming season. I can make a case that Georgia was looking ahead to SCar who they played the following week. And SCar was just coming off a 2 game road swing to LSU and Florida.

Oregon will be ranked pre-season Top5, so I don't think we can sneak up on them at their place.

Agree we have a good football coach however he needs the time to get us back on track, because some coach is going to need more than 3 years to get us back to where we are accustomed to.

It is very refreshing to see things like this. Obviously, loyalty and a family environment are big with CBJ. Sometimes I think we forget these players are just kids, most far away from home. They come from high schools where they are literally rock stars to a place where some can't even break the two-deep. Their emotions can be fragile like anyone. I salute CBJ for being caring human being.

Is it wrong to think there could be a rebound from Dools' insanity quickly and with the team posting a win or two that is unexpected because they now believe in themselves, their coaches, and the system? Especially now that we know they will in top physical condition?

Add in the recruiting and it is getting harder to not be optimistic about the program's future.

A few things:

- Its nice to finally have a coach that I'm confident in again, at least from a resume standpoint. I am ever the eternal optimist but, damn, it was like grasping at straws trying to find something to be positive about with Dooley. The biggest shining moment Dooley had as a HC was taking LSU to the wire with La Tech...but still lost. Jones might not have been my first choice but his resume speaks for itself and he's done EVERYTHING right off the field so far.

- Players randomly dropping in is great to hear but Jones stating that we need more is even better--shows he's encouraging the players to develop ownership and leadership of the team. CBJ seems much more like a players coach who genuinely cares about his players, in every aspect. Not that Dooley did not, but there always seemed to be this air of aristocracy surrounding Dooley--which just does not translate to a lot of people, let alone 18-23 year old's.

- I think our days of middle-of-the-pack recruiting are numbered...like less than 365 days numbered. If you really paid attention to recruiting since CBJ came to UT, the fact that he got us back into contention with major players in the '13 class was admirable, borderline noteworthy, but the work he's doing with not only the '14 class, but beyond, is remarkable....and kids are eating it up. I think CBJ exposes our in-state rival's recruiting efforts this year for it really is/was....opportunistic and indicative of our recruiting woes with the previous staff. We're going to own this state again, I believe.

- I've said to some friends several times, but I think this season will be a lot like Kiffin's first year...nothing spectacular in the W-L column but you'll see a team that enjoys playing football again, and one that really likes playing for CBJ. Just a thought...

- We may have hired our second or third choice as HC but I think we may have hired the best candidate for the job. When our BRAND NEW HC emphasizes that our marketing campaign for the upcoming season ought to be centered on our traditions, it nearly gives me goosebumps. We haven't had a coach who embraced this school and all its pageantry like this since Fulmer. And for all his faults, Fulmer loves this university like its family. That might not translate to the field, but it does in recruiting. We might have hit an home run with this hire. Time will tell...but how this team plays for CBJ and his staff this year will be even more telling.....

If CBJ's first season includes wins over UGA and USCe, I think everyone on VolNation would be ready to give him a lifetime contract.

Hear hear!

USCe might be a possibility. But the Spurrier-factor makes them oh so tough regardless of talent levels...

Georgia's offense is going to be out of this world, though, if they keep everyone healthy. If we get our offense going, that could be another 51-44 shootout, but I'm not optimistic we would win...

CBJ and staff are going to have the team much more prepared for these games than Dooley did. It seemed like Dooley's game plan was devised by kids playing street football. "You go out 15 steps and brake right behind the green Chevy" "Ok you cover that guy and you try to maybe tackle the QB" "Ready.... Break"

Jimmy's and Joe's not X's and O's.

No one is doubting the coaching. There's only so much you can do with this embarrassing level or experience/talent.
