Scout.com: Southern hospitality leaves impression

paraphrase:

-Says he enjoyed UT hospitality. Really enjoyed basketball game

-Says we are recruiting him as inside linebacker and loves that we offer early playing time at that position.

-Will be back for O&W game

-Coach Thig and Coach Jones are his recruiters.

I had no idea we were recruiting him as inside linebacker. 6'0", 180 lbs seems WAY to small. But the article kept insinuating just that

Edit: article said he is up to 195 lbs now

Looking at the Cinci depth chart, with the exception of Senior Greg Blair most of their mlb's are around six foot and 210ish pounds.

The quotes in this scout article were exact quotes from Ray Tillman 247 article. I think they got the interviews mixed up, which would explain why they said we are recruiting Smith as a LB

Another interview with Scout:

-Said UT trip went really well. Coach Martinez showed him around new facilities. One of his favorite junior days.

-Said UT facilities were completely different from anywhere else he's ever been and thought they were awesome.

-Florida is leader. Clemson, UT, and UGA right behind

-Committing on signing day

-Playing time is most important factor

"That was my first time going up there. It was nice. It was nicer than most of the facilities I've been to so far so I liked it," Smith said. "They exceeded my expectations. It was a really good visit. It was the best one I had been to so far."

"What stood out was how the facilities were and the campus and how it was so much different than all the other ones," Smith said. "Like, they have that cafeteria being built downstairs of the locker room and then they have the indoor field right there. It was just way different than anything I had been to. It's so close it's so convenient."

"My dad and I talked to coach Willie Martinez. We talked to him most of the time. Then, I talked to the head coach, coach Jones," Smith said. "They were wanting to win games and wanted to coach them up and win games, but at the end of the day be a family."

"Everything is good so far. I'm just having a lot of fun meeting new coaches and stuff. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity so I'm taking it real slow right now," Smith said.

That size will absolutely not work in the SEC. Average ILB size is probably around 6'2" 235 if not bigger in the SEC.

What does this have to do with D.J. Smith and did he say why he wants bigger LBs?

He was probably just reading through the thread and saw the discussion about Smith at linebacker that occurred when Scout screwed up and said we were recruiting him as one

Watched some 7x7 film of this kid. He shuts people down! Definitely like his game. My 3rd favorite corner behind Peppers and Humphrey.

He'll have to be very physical at CB as he doesn't have incredible speed, but should be a solid CB/FS one day.
